Here are some examples of applied and baked very thin slices from "translucent canes"(actually translucent+opaque canes) so you can see how the translucent parts can disappear after baking.
Since the canes can be placed over any background though, sometimes it's hard to tell which patterns and colors are the backgrounds, and which are the overlay of translucent-opaque canes:

most of the last 6 of these clay-covered eggs are examples of floating flower canes (over a green or other background)

(the ones on the left show the slices placed on a translucent base bead, but not completely covering the base ... the bead on the right has enough slices overlapping that the base bead can't be seen)

These sample slices of different flower canes are baked, but since they're are sliced fairly thick, the translucent parts are visible rather than disappearing:
