on the kara janx website, in the collections-olympus fashion week- the last picture is a longer kimono dress. (random... sorry not really going to help any of you who are actually good at this.....)

My work on this is completely halted. Why? Becasue my darling old vintage dress form gave up the ghost a few months ago and  developed a spinal issue that causes her to permanantly lean. However - I was given one for my Mother's day / birthday present. I had almost forgotten about this completely until I read the note you left fabricfightsfire, thanks. I needed a reminder.
 So I shall be back to work and I promise I will post pictures here with some small construction tidbits I learned on the way.
Did anyone catch that Project will be having a new season this summer? *swoon*
I think they said early June in the commercial I saw.  I guess I could just check the website, but I thouhght I'd give a heads up.

i was thinking about this dress as i was watching PR last night, and decided to take another look at it, and the design and such.  what i was thinking, after looking at Kara's site for like an hour (okay, not that long, but it was way too long), was that there is no seam in the skirt, and that it was a solid piece.  but i don't know, because there is no shot of the back of the dress, to see if there is a seam between the top part and the bottom part.  
 
i know my image has a lot going on in it, i was a little hyper with the color.  basically the maroon line in the image on the right is the seam, and the up and down pink lines are where the ties would be sewn.  and of course there are the sleeves and the binding all around the dress, but i don't really have anything new to add what other people have said about them.


what do you guys think?  does it make it overly complicated? (i have a tendency to do that sometimes).  i don't think i am going to be making this dress for a long time to come(my machine is down, and i'm off to college in less than a month), but i wanted to share my ideas on it, and my love of it!

I think that your way would make it more difficult for 2 reasons. 1) since its a wrap dress, I think there needs to be a continous line down the front of the dress, which is easier if the top and skirt are the same peice of fabric. 2) Since the ties have to go through somewhere, its easier to have a side seam go all the way down, so you don't have to worry about make sure your top peice is long enough to have a seam at the point where you want your tie to go through. I hope that makes sense. However, your design is neat in the sense that you could have a solid skirt attached to a wrap top, which might be a different twist on the Kara Dress.
