Ok, So my boyfriend and I are planning on having about 20 people over on New Years for a New Years Eve party! I looked in the party planning section foreverrrr and couldnt find a lot on New Years parties!!
So far I have a couple of ideas:
-I have a large island in my kitchen and I was going to lay square mirrors down the center with votive candles and confetti. (I saw this in Real Simple)
-Buy plastic champagne glasses and write or get stickers of numbers for a "count down toast" courtesy of Martha... http://images.marthastewart.com/images/content/pub/ms_living/2005Q1/ft_jan05msl99_l.jpg
-Really good music
-Tin can lights on our patio: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=34189.0
-Favors??? Not sure!!!
-a big white cake??
-Does anyone else have any ideas for fun new years decorations?? I guess that's what i'm stumped most on!!

Magic Eight Balls!  It's going to be 2008, and it's been a long year of casino nights and James Bond parties.  Now it's '08 and who knows what the future brings?  Ask the Magic Eight Ball!

(Not a lot of people know this, but Ed Helms - Andy the Nard-dog from The Office - is also a cartoonist.  My favorite cartoon of his is called Magic Eight Ball's Rude Awakening.  It features an eight ball sitting atop a stack of Applied Physics textbooks, completely disillusioned, and insisting, "But...I'm...MAGIC!")

You can make a simple Magic 8-Ball cake with a bowling ball mold.  Serve it with triangle shortbread cookies iced pale blue with phrases like "Definitely!" and "Answer Hazy - Ask Later."

Serve 8 Ball martinis by stuffing small pearl cocktail onions inside large black olives.  Float in traditional gin and vodka martinis or blue curacao cocktails.

If you have room, set up a pool table and hold a mini-tournament.  For favors, give your guests eight ball keyrings and personalized fortune cookies.

A PIRATE PARTY!!!  (Yes, it's been done to death, but who doesn't love a right raunchy pirate party?)  Your theme is Pieces of Eight, and you can serve tropical rum drinks and a cake like this...

And you can rig up a stuffed parrot (think a stuffed Iago from Aladdin) to spout rude things at your guests as they pass.  Your invites can be scrolls in bottles or just an eyepatch with the info written on the inside of the patch.  Favors could be a pouch with a gold coin (double meaning here---pieces of eight and money for luck in the new year) or bad public domain pirate movies on dvd.
