I saw a woman the other day with the coolest hair thing! I'd love to figure out how to make one. I tried to stalk her and get a better look, but I was afraid of being a weirdo. So...here's my impression. Maybe some clever craftster can help me figure this one out? Her hair was up in the back, seemingly in the regular sort of "french twist"-ish manner many of us use for lazy/hot hair days. But it was secured with what looked like beaded corset lacings. There was a line of seed beads up each side, connected by x's of seed beads like lacings. You could see hair in between, so it wasn't just an embellished barrette. It looked so cool but how on earth was it secured?  It was about the width of a large-ish barrette or comb. Has anyone seen this or know how it would work? I want a pretty hair "corset"!!

Woaaaa...that sounds crazy. The only thing at I can suggest is using a hairtie with secured elastic strings from one end to the other (with the seadbeads on it). That might get tangled though...hm. Ask your hairdresser?

It might be like the leather ones bikers wear, a wrap that snaps behind the hair.  I'd have gone up and asked her about it.  Wink  But I'm nosy.  The hair wraps I've seen are two strips of leather with snaps set in them, connected by knotted leather thong, or one strip laced up with the thong.  Substitute strung beads for leather thong, and voila!

Here are some of the biker ones:  http://www.jaminleather.net/products.asp?dept=145&pagenumber=2

Ooo, and I found these 'hair strings':  http://mp.hairboutique.com/category.asp?CtgID=247  They are clipped on and then wound around the hair.  That would give the same look.

Hmmm...it was more barette-like I think, a bit more structured. I wish I'd gotten a better look. I was at my part time job as a museum gallery guard. I'm new there, but I'm pretty sure we aren't supposed to run up to patrons and inquire about where they shop! LOL. If we were I'd be doing it all the time, I see a lot of cool outfits in there! If I'd been in the grocery store or something I would've asked. I tried to follow her around the gallery but she kept turning!  Wink  I'm almost wondering if 2 bobby pins connected by beaded wire would work? I just don't think it would be very secure. *ponders*

I think I may have found something close!!!

I was thinking maybe it wa two hair combs connected by beads...so I googled "beaded hair combs and I found this...

It looks like it could slide in on either side of a french twist. Plus it looks easy to make!!!
