As anyone used and finished any of these patterns? They sound cool but I'd like to see pictures of them.

no, but I do know that the chain mail in monty python and the holy grail was knit like this. i think they used cotton string and painted it.

i think its quite a common way to make chainmail costumes - real maille is incredibly time consuming to make, and heavy and more expensive - so I suppose knitting is a more budget and actor friendly option

Hm....  Might be worth buying some novelty yarn and knitting a swatch....

I thought about trying it out with this yarn, they have a neat silver color.

At least, I hope that's it, I've lost my glasses.  Roll Eyes We're also going to try out dying/painting the nylon, I think it'll be fun.

i think painting it would definitely make it look more like chain mail and less like knitting. It might look good if you can get some kind of silver wax stuff.

i agree it will also stiffen it so it will behave more like chain mail.

I saw a knitted chainmail pattern recently (probably from someone on Craftster) and I'm trying to talk husband into wearing it at a con this summer if I make it. I bought a Simplicity sewing pattern for the tunic and banner and stuff. I had this weird image in my mind of being the damsel and making him the knight in shining armor.

Am I nerdy? Oh yes. But I'm also lazy and don't want to start until he commits to doing it.

Mienna, have you started? I'd love to see what you've done!
