I've been collecting them lately like mad whenever the thrift stores have their bag sales. So far I haven't started doing anything with them, but I do like this project: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=284019.msg3217913#msg3217913

I would make a crazy dress or skirt. You could also dress up a denim mini with one.

I once  saw a womens skirt made from mens silk ties. It looked really pretty. I think there was a pattern mentioned, I just don't remember where. Roll Eyes

You can wrap the silk around something (like an egg) or place it on nice heavy paper then either soak it in hot water or wet and weight done with very hot water.  The dye from the silk tie will transfer the pattern. Not so clear I realize but I hope you get the idea.

I have a ton of neckties that I'm trying to figure out what to do with. I looked online for a while, and found a few links:

Tons of pics of crafts made from ties: http://www.flickr.com/groups/34628626@N00/pool/

I'm totally gonna try something!

old ties i used as:
    belt
bag strap
  • hair band

i can't locate the photo of the recycled bag I made, but I sew a hook on the other end (narrower end) to make the strap adjustable, and the wider end, I sew permanently.

Not sure if it's been posted here yet....  I made it through about 14 pages of posts, then my eyes got all buggy....  Here's a fabulous link to a site which has photos of MANY of the projects discussed in this thread: purses, quilts, wreaths, pillows, skirts, dresses.... Also some other ideas I hadn't seen here: kids clothes (really cute), upholstery, Easter eggs, stuffed animals, some really cute purse designs, and much more.

Mostly there were PHOTOS of many of the ideas I had read about, but couldn't visualize.  The only one I'd still like to see is the dust ruffle.  If you know a link to a photo, please post it.   Thanks!

Thanks to all for all the great ideas.  Y'all are just plain FABULOUS!
