Being Canadian, I didn't understand the "Arbor Day" question, so I looked it up:
http://www.arbor-day.net/

Apparently it varies state to state. A holiday for tree planting sounds like a good idea.

Wow, I thought it was international, or at least national. How interesting! I remember doing things in school but I don't hear much about it lately.

Wow, I thought it was international, or at least national. How interesting! I remember doing things in school but I don't hear much about it lately.

It is national but different states climates make it better to plant at certain times. Where I live in southeastern Wisconsin our average last frost date is April 24, so we celebrate with the national date (this year April 28). Other states like ND, MN, AK may be too cold at that time to plant a tree so they may push their date back to May, while southerners plant earlier so that the newly transplanted tree has a chance to get its roots going before the extreme heat.

(since you found it interesting I thought you find this interesting as well)

I'm a tree geek... for a semester I took a four hour tree class every week with about 20+ hours of field study (and I work a full time job).

I can't wait for sign-ups!

I just came across this leafy cartoon strip series called "rustle the leaf"
http://www.rustletheleaf.com/

As well as featuring cute characters it's pro-green themed so I thought you'd all be interested
