This is the outfit that my mom and I made for me for my sons wedding celebration.  The party never happened because my daughter-in-laws mom fell and broke her back.  She is ok now.  But anyway I always get many compliments when I wear this outfit

closer look at the top

I usually don't like ruffle on my top but because the material was thin and flowy and the ruffle was smaller I think it looks ok here

Notice the gather bust and tunic body.  I think for big belly's but for girls whose breasts are bigger than their belly's this is a good look.

The other thing that I want to point out is that you need to know what your colors are.  Your season.  For example I know that I look best in spring colors and this universal blue.  I like winter colors but I am aware that spring is good for me.

Here is a better look at the bottom of the skirt

And an action shot

Again, if you want the pattern no. ask me. Modified:  for those of you that have asked, the skirt is McCalls 4456 and super easy with some cute variations, I recommend this pattern especially if you are tired of the straight hemline: the top is McCall's 4592, not as easy but not real hard either.  I am getting ready to make another of the variations of this pattern but a little more dramatic.  (Stay tuned)

for a closer look at the jewelry, which I made you can look here

I Love this dress!  I love the color, I love the cut, I love the waist -- it's really lovely and it looks great!

I need to make me one of these halter top wide waist banded dresses.  They look so good!

I'm going to comment on your jewelry too since it's so gorgeous -- but over in the other post.  http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=79490.msg746214#msg746214

Oh Pudruff, I meant to respond to you, also thank you.  But I was thinking about the halter dress.  They are very cute and seem to be in this year.  I was thinking though if it is banded under the bust rather than at the waist is better for a big girl.

Mommabear - You are SO my hero!! That dress is amazing! It looks professional. So well put together with the handmade acessories as well. Wow! it is a very flattering cut on you and color as well. Too bad you had to 86 the occasion to wear it for. It seems that's the way it goes for me too. Whenever I get my sh*t together -something happens and I don't get to show my stuff.  Shocked
You get an A++ from me on this one all around.

Thanks Kitschy, my mom (Freegranny) did most of the sewing on the dress, I did the designing and the cutting, etc. I think we chose the fabric together.

Oh, and every woman, should at least once in her life get a color analysis done.  That way if nothing else and you are having a slumpy day, not feeling so hot about yourself, you just put on something that you KNOW is your color and you will get lots of compliments, just by the mere fact that it is the right color, you will glow, and then you will feel better!!!

So two important tips we have come up with here
1.  Get the proper bra size
2.  Get a color analysis

I have always wanted to have a color analysis done - by a pro. I have read alot on the topic in magazines and books, but I get drastically different results each time.
Mommabear - where is a good source for having one done or a good book?
I had a bra fitting about a year ago after I had stopped nursing my last child... very sad day indeed... I had shrunk considerably. It was a very surprising experience and I am all the better for it. What a difference a bra makes.
The other issue - shoes. Shoes that are the right size, believe it or not. Alot of women wear shoes that are too small. (My husband is in "shoe business") He says that everyone really needs to go to a good shoe store to be properly measured.

I am sorry Kitschy, it has been years since I got mine done so I cannot give you any referals.  As for books you might just try looking at amazon and see what comes up.  Does anyone else know where you go for good color analysis?

Wow, that colour is fabulous and it looks absolutely gorgeous on you!  I agree, the colours we like are not always the colours that look best on us.  But that colour sure looks great on you!

Guess what, I made this pattern and it is the easiest most awsome skirt pattern ever.  It is so simple and looks so elegant, and for curvy women works good because the hem is uneven by design so we don't have that "how do we make the hem look even over our big "belly", "booty" question.  I definately recomend this pattern to everyone.

Sorry, I was being "slow".  Shocked
Did I mention that I got a sewing machine? You gave me the last final push I needed! I got a cheepo from Hell Mart andI am in hog heaven. It has been frustrating, but I think I am getting the hang of it.
I will check out this skirt patten and report back to you. THANKS & Thanks!!

I know that I am bringing up a really really old post but I have been going through old posts on the forum and I wanted to tell you that this dress is amazing!  I can't sew, I look on this particular part of the forum to get ideas on how to wear clothes. I get frustrated sometimes with dressing my size)  I wish there would be someway for someone to make this dress for me although the pattern probably doesn't exist anymore.  I have really low self esteem resulting from the weight gain I have had from medication and this dress would make me feel like a butterfly.  Just saying this dress is beautiful!!!

Beautiful outfit!  I love it!

For the women asking about color analysis - I had mine done by Amway.  I think they still do them.  They aren't cheap - they run about $80 or so.  The results you get are much more in depth than what you can get online, but the free online tests are still basically pretty accurate.

Here are some online free sites that do a decent job - remember when they ask for hair color to give them your natural color.  That's important.
http://trepanrr.tripod.com/personal_color_palettes.htm
http://www.colormebeautiful.com/seasons/

If you get to the point where you're not sure about cool or warm, remember that if you look at your inner wrist area and you see that your blood vessels look greenish under your skin, that is an indicator that you are a warm person and thereby either a spring or an autumn.  Those of us with vessels that look blue are cool, which means either summer or winter.

Blue or most hazel eyes - cool
Brown or green eyes - warm

The one thing I saw that I remembered gave my analyst a hard time was they say if you have red or gold in your hair then you're warm and not cool.  Well, I was a strawberry blonde as a kidlet but I'm cool.  I'm a summer.  We weren't really sure, though, until almost the end of the analysis that this was the one for sure.  It was touch and go for a while.

Lots of folks can do the online analysis and they'll be fine with the results.  If you struggle, though, remember the blood vessel guidelines I gave you.  The vessel colors and the eye color will help.  If it's really important to you, there are still places that will send an analyst to your home to do your personal analysis.  I know we had a home party and all we had to do for the analysis to be free for everyone was for each person to spend a certain amount on cosmetics - this way the analyst earned enough to compensate her for her time and knowledge.

I hope this helps.

Now....I want the pattern for that top.  It probably wouldn't fit me, though.  I don't have large enough boobage to do it justice.  Maybe I can come up with a decent likeness, though.

Kandistar and iloveskirts, thank you for the compliments.  I was surprised to see this thread so far forward after not looking at this group for awhile.  I still love this outfit.  I have lost weight though and the top does not work so well but I love the skirt and still wear it with other tops.  I will look for the top pattern and give  you the number, I am also open to swaps...
