This idea came in very handy, as I just couldn't stand to look at my huge white-ass walls anymore. I'm also likely moving in 2ish months, so I needed something quick and removable.
After class today I went to the fancy yarn store and this is what I ended up with:

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/150/384424943_4801ce9e6e_o.jpg
It's still a little sparse for my liking, so I might make a return trip to said yarn store and add more to it.

Thats some pretty nice string art. If you want to make it stand out more, this is something my ceramics teacher (Ianna Frisby) did, it kina makes it stand out alot more and you could probably use alot of different types of hooks and what not

Wow thanks for that! The hooks really make it look more like an objet d'art. I've since moved and haven't made a new one. Maybe this is the extra something I needed...

I love that. Reminds me of the 60's string art and all the pictures that were done then. It looks great and the kitchen idea is a good one too. If you do one in your kitchen please post!

Wow, this brings back memories. My dad made something similar to that once, a long time ago, probably in the 60s. It was a picture of a train made with wire and hardware, set against a velvet backdrop in a frame. There's lots of art possibilities with this.

Wow I'm overdue! Even if you don't want the how-to any longer, I'll still post it! I put some brass tacks in the wall kind of randomly. I made a loop in one end of the string and put it around the first tack. Then I just stretched the yarn from one tack to another until I liked the shapes it made. When I was satisfied I just tied a knot in the yarn around one of the tacks. And it stayed like that for months until I moved. There are so many other things you could do with it... like put a fabric up behind it or use it to hold pictures or something. And KittyCreates' Dad's creation sounds awesome! I might just have to revisit this idea!

This is such a great idea! I love what all of you have done with it. I really like how different it can turn out depending on the fiber and the kind of tacks/hooks used.
Thanks for posting it and thank you SO MUCH for bumping the thread
