Knifty Knitter Purse & Cat Sweater
«

I made this purse about a month ago with my Knifty Knitter. It was pretty simple to make... it's basically just a rectangle (that tapers a bit at the ends) folded in half. I used Wool-ease thick & quick yarn in a dark grey color. A brooch was used as the closure (gotta love the $1 section at Target!). Since I can't sew yet... I cut out the lining of an old purse I dont use anymore and hand stitched it to the inside of the purse. It's the first purse I've ever made, and I'm pretty happy with the outcome!
Basic directions are:
Using the green loom, make a rectangle that is
3" of garter stitch (one row of purl, one row of knit)
one row of drop stitch
7" of 2x2 rib stitch
one row of drop stitch
3" of garter stitch
Knit off the loom. (make the rectangle as wide as you want. To make it longer, just mess with the measurements I mentioned.. make sure they are mirrors of each other or it won't line up tho')
fold purse in half so everything lines up and sew the sides together..
the strap and closure are just skinny rectangles in the garter stitch b/c it's a bit heftier than stockinette. Weave ribbon through the drop stitches.. I then lined the strap with ribbon to make it stronger. And I lined the purse with fabric.
www.yarngear.com
has directions on how to do all of the different stitches I mentioned on a Knifty Knitter.

Wow!
That looks amazing! Even though you said that it was simple, that's what's so great about it....being able to make something simple into something creative and elegant looking. I realy like it.

I've made scarves, hats, arm warmers, purses, a cat sweater & a baby blanket with the knifty knitter. You can also convert regular knitting patterns to work on the knifty knitter. You just have to keep in mind that you are limited with how many cast ons you can do and that it will need a bulky/super bulky weight yarn... I'm working on a stuffed toy cat right now. Kind of a modification of the one seen on knitty.com I'm also working on a shrug... I'm doing the one on the knifty knitter site (
www.provocraft.com
) right now, but I also have an idea for one that will be more fitted that I'll try when I finish these two projects.

I have the rectangle KK, but I've yet to use it. I like making flat scarves on the round looms better. Their small size is just easier to hold and work with.. I only bought the rectangle one b/c I didnt know you could flat knit on the round looms.
I made that cat/dog sweater (well it's actually more like a vest) on the redloom (use whatever size loom that would fit the circumfrence of your pet) it's basically just a piece that looks like this
with ties or buttons along the sides. I just put yarn ties on b/c Martini only wore it for that picture (that went on our christmas cards).. if it was for a dog or something, buttons or pretty ribbon would look better. But yea.. it ties along their back.
The front part is knit in the round except for the arm hole parts.. then it's flat knit and you decrease to get it to taper towards the end

The cat sweater is a great idea! I wish I'd had one last month when Pawlette, Kitten of Evil (see avatar) was spayed. She had to wear one of those plastic Elizabethan collars that damned near choked her. I tried all sorts of things to keep her from licking her surgical site after I had to ditch the collar.
Would you ever seriously consider making these for that reason? Out of a sport weight cotton, perhaps? Something that could bend to allow them to eat and drink (and could be washed easily) but would prevent them from licking wounds? I know there would be a market for them.
Your purse is really cute too.
