Cute idea and love everyone's version. The molding with the clothes pins is really neat, but how do the clothes pins keep the cards from falling. Can't really tell by looking at the picture.

they just sort of pinch the card against the inside edge of the molding. also, the clothespins hold the shelf out a bit from the wall so the cards lean back and aren't as inclined to blow down. it was all a bit of a problem-solving scheme since i had already nailed the ribbon into the wall.

I've been using my shelf since the middle of this summer! I was working for a girl scout camp where i had to stay there most of the time, so the shelf and pictures helped make it my own space, lol. now they're in my dorm :]]

and i tried to get a picture of the ducttape i used. i have cinderblock walls, so no thumbtacks, staples, etc... so i used white duct tape to blend it in

Thank you for such an inspiring post!  I made three shelves using 2", 3" and 4" planks of 1/4" basswood and a ribbon hanger with a 1/4" dowel rod.  The shelves are painted white using good ol' acrylic paint and hung with ribbons anchored with fabric covered buttons.  It's amazing how much stuff these little 24" cuties can hold.

I am in love with this!  And all the different versions are fantastic!   I wish I would have found this earlier.. it definitely has a place in my apartment next year.. I was actually just thinking how cool it would be to have some wall shelves just to display little things(I can't really use screws because it's a campus apartment) - problem solved!
