Just wondering if anyone has made ribbon leis?

I saw the demonstrations by "auntie" Mellie Enos at Market City ben franklin.. it seemed really easy, so I got her book ... but haven't tried to make one yet and in fact, I got really confused..  I was thinking it's a nice DIY Hawaii project to take back to family on the mainland since can't bring flower leis...and  also since flower leis are so expensive to buy!

If anyone has played with making these, can you post some pics and comments?

Thanx!  Cheesy

are you talking about the crochet leis with ribbon and fur yarn?  or is this just plain ribbon?  i have pics of the crochet leis and i can email you instructions when i get home tonight if you are interested.

i am getting ready to make crochet leis and i can take pics as i make it and email them to you.

i'd love to see your pics, Maluhia! the ones I'm thinking of are made of ribbon, although some are done with eyelash yarn. the most simple isn't in the book i bought - it was done with a straw, with a ribbon inside, and then twirling the eyelash yarn around the straw. But, then I don't now how to finish the lei, and get it off the straw...

my friend taught me how to make a real simple lei with two ribbons. we have to make leis for our graduation but the ones she was making was really thin so I don't know.  I would like to know how to make bigger ribbion leis (if can) for my graduation.

I can't help with making leis, but can tell you that it's OK to bring leis back to the mainland.  You can bring back most types of cut flowers, too.
