Odessa (Grumperina for MagKnits) KAL

Hey all!  I've been wanting to knit this sans beads, but I'm reconsidering.  I've never knit with beads before... are there specific beads I should buy or is it whatever is appropriate for the yarn?

I've been wanting to make this hat, but I've been on a mission to do some stash busting.Today I noticed I had a skein of Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece leftover from my Green Gable. Would this be a good sub?

just about any yarn would work... I made a couple with some handspun 4-ply and it worked fine!
About the beads:  any beads that fit on the yarn will work.

UGH these beads are tormenting me. I couldn't find a yarn needle small enough to thread the beads that I wanted, so I just used a little bit of wax to bring the end of the yarn to a firm point, and threaded them that way (though it took a heck of a lot longer). AND I'm almost done the ribbing at the bottom... but I've come across a knot in the yarn that I can't pass the beads over. So it looks like I'll have to go through this whole threading business again.

The beads are beautiful, and I'm committed to doing it this way... it's just frustrating. I hope the rest of this skein is one continuous string.

oh no! I'm going to rewind my yarn before I start to make sure there are no knots! What a pain. I would have never even thought of that had it not happened to you. I'm usually angry when I come across a knot, but if I had strung all those beads I would be furious.

A Dental Floss Threader works great for stringing beads onto yarn. They are available at drugstores as well has WalMart type stores. Here is a pix of one brand so you'll know what to look for.

I'm just starting one of these for a good friend who'se undergoing chemotherapy... I'm guessing that it would be best to skip the beads for this one due to the potential hair loss, but was wondering of those of you who have made this would agree? Can you feel the beads from the inside?
