I wish Prima had more patterns; is more of a more glossy Woman's Own, really.  Not bad though, if you like the domestic goddess approach.  My pattern for the dress came in the post this morning (you have to send off for it), it took less than a week to arrive.  My housemates and I agreed that we preferred the long-sleeved version.

OK... this has inspired a design I have for a wedding dress... I'd be making it in a ruched chiffon (ruching is much more flattering on some people), just adding a "mermaid skirt" to the bottom of it.

Problem is, I'm not buying a pattern (hate them, and the ruching would screw it up anyway).  I'm just stumped on one thing: where the heck would you put a zipper?!  I'm guessing in the side would be best?

Here's my fast-and-dirty sketch, in case it makes a difference:

The Vogue pattern has a centre back zipper.

And your sketches look EXACTLY like my friend's wedding dress (she got married in October), only hers was a sleeveless dress with a lace shrug over top, which achieved the same look.

Damn! I think I got the wrong issue! I bought Prima last night at Border's, but it was wrapped in plastic so I couldn't check to see if it was the one with this dress in it. I got it home and found that the pattern is for a bow-neck blouse instead.

I don't suppose you could PM me the phone number to order the dress pattern, could you? I bought the mag, just the wrong one (December). Sad

looks as if McCalls is doing one too now its number 5269
Only short sleeve versions though but the options for the bottom of the skirt are quite cute

bwahahah I finished my version of Vogue 8280! My Prima pattern should be on its way, so I can't wait to compare the two...

(Clicky for more photos...)

I'm really pleased with the way it turned out, but there's no way it should be rated "Easy"! I can't wait to get an occasion to wear it outside my house now!!

the dresses you guys have made are so nice! they look like the real thing! but vogue confuses me so i just bought McCall's 5269 b/c Joann's is having its 99cents McCall's pattern sale. the simplest version, view A, has only 6 pieces, and it seems pretty straightforward. i plan on starting on it this week or the next, so I'll post my experiences along the way. if anyone has any advice, feel free to give it!
