I got this idea from something I saw in the store Anthropologie....
Except theirs was $40 bucks!!!!!! Mine was made from things I already have in my supply collection!
They put more of a laminated fabric on theirs and it was bigger in size (like single subject notebook sized)

Front closed

Open

The butterfly fabric was originally curtains that my moms friend made out of bedsheets back in the 70's...so it has been reincarnated several times.

The "binding" is just ribbon put through two holes....its mushroom ribbon that I found in AC Moore a while back for $1!!! (its lion brand too!)
I cut a stack of yellow paper to size...punched 2 holes in it....cut felt to size..cut fabric to size...stiched it onto the front and back panels with zig zag stitch...punched two holes in the 2 pieces of felt.....stack everything then tied the ribbons through and Finick!

{[oh and I cut everything but the paper with pinking shears...it helps to disquise un-straight lines so you dont have to be perfect on this one...sometimes straight lines and I dont get along]}

It feels good to hold and is very light weight so it can be taken on the go with you.
Can be used for journal, photoalbum, memory book, sketch book....

Hope you like it....~M

I really like the whole idea! I really LOVE the 70s fabric... I am so jealous! I love all things 70s, and that fabric would go great with my retro room. I might have to go vintage thrift shopping for fabric to make this journal...

I totally know what you are talking about!  Last year, my mom-in-law bought me one of those journals from anthropologie and I was convinced I could replicate it...here's what I came up with---funny that we both did the butterfly thing...
This one doesn't have felt.  It's more fabric (on the inside) and thick paper with lots of varnish to give it a leathery feeling.

Why thank you, Laamissa!  I actually prefer your journal for it's color scheme and arrangement! Smiley  You did a fantastic job---forgot to tell you that in my earlier post!
On a side note, the $40 journal that my mom-in-law bought me has been put to use for a journal to my baby (soon to be born on Oct 1st  Grin). Unfortunately, the pages in it are kinda yellowing around where the holes for the ribbon are  Embarrassed.  For $40, they couldn't even use archival paper? Angry  bastards!

This is so what I've been looking for. . .can decide which one to try though Cool Am going to be doing a pink Strawberry Shortcake one for the SIL to use as cookbook.

It's more fabric (on the inside) and thick paper with lots of varnish to give it a leathery feeling.

Erm. . .what did you varnish?
