I'm a penguin in disguise!

I have gotten many questions about this pattern (Simplicity 9004) since it is my avatar.  I made this for my cats.
Of course they do not use it but the mouth is too small anyway.  I made it about 2 1/2 years ago so my memory of its construction is foggy.  Anyway, it was fun to make.  I was a little confused about how the head attached to the body.  There is an unfinished seam inside but I dont care since no one will really see it.  I also did not put the eyes on it because I got lazy and did not want to search for ping pong balls.

I have used it as a funky bag but it was cumbersome.  Now it is eating a monster in my living room.  Yeah!

Feel free to ask questions, but like I said, my memory is foggy about construction.  Someday I plan to make the others on the pattern (a tent and a house).  I may even try to make them lifesize.  That'd be real fun!

Ha!  That is fantastic!  And such fantastic colors . . . are the other patterns larger?  do you think the cats would use those?

My cats only sleep on things you don't want them to sleep on.... *sigh*

I think that is so funny and ironic that is looks like a FISH eating a CAT...

I saw that when I was browsing through pattern books. Was it easy to make?

Penguingrrl, if you are still around, I have to thank you for inspiring me to make my own fishbed:

Fortunately, mine was made for a rather small cat, and she climbed right in and claimed it as her own as soon as she saw it.  Smiley

Candycanechild, the construction was a bit of a puzzler at times, but nothing too impossible.  I think the greatest difficulty was in working with the foam (pattern called for 1/2 inch, but I used 1/4, which worked just fine), because it is so bulky and is sticky with metal (pins, foot of sewing machine, etc).

And, just for fun, here's a pic of the cozy recipient:

Aww...  mitsumame, your kitty looks so content in her fish bed!  I love the fabric you chose too... it's so bright and fun. Thanks for the hints, I definatly want to try this one day.

When I first saw that pattern, I fell in love with it!
I hope I can find that pattern somewhere in Sweden (because I don't have a credit or debit card to order stuff from the US), because my cats sleep on places where they always manage to knock things over! Smiley

I love cats. I love tea. That's me in a nutshell.

That bed makes me laugh.  I should go look for the pattern, I'm sure my cat would use one.
