I used to wear a similar lid in air cadets when I was a teenager (not too long ago!)  I can't remember how they are shaped, but maybe you could find one in a thrift store and take it apart?

the hubster is in the navy and the cover he wears is similar and i believe he's called it a garrison cap before.  that may help your search, or not?  if he's ever pitching one i can mail it to ya.  i have no idea when that'll be tho
