the material is a felted wool sweater embellished with needlefelted wool, crocheted piping, and lined with recycled sari fabric.  it's mostly hand-stitched and took hours, partly because i'm new to making bags and partly because i just couldn't stop decorating it!  it was really satisfying, especially since i spent $2 on materials- plus it's 100% recycled.  even the thread.

Gorgeous. I have plans to make felted bags out of two sweaters I have - embroidery like yours is beyond me though (they'll be lucky to get a bit of blanket stitch!)

thanks eveyone.  it's actually not embroidery- it's needlefelting.  so i just attatched the green wool yarn using a felting needle- very easy.

and here it is with the flap i added (with recycled glass button:

That looks awesome. I just made some recycled sweater bags that I plan to embroider, but this really takes the cake!

They didn't agree on much. In fact they rarely agreed on anything. They fought all the time and they challenged each other everyday. But in spite of their differences they had one important thing in common. They were crazy about each other.

That's gorgeous! I always like to see good recycling - and when it looks that good too, well! Excellent work!

needlefelting? is that where you poke the yarn into it a bazillion times with a special needle?

exactly.  it's...tedious but meditative.
