Two Japanese skirts
«
on:
January 29, 2006 02:08:28 PM »
I found some really cute contemporary japanese print fabrics and fell in love. I usaully like more traditional stuff but these were so cute. The first is a simple a line skirt. The color is not one I normally wear but I love it because of the print!
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a134/PinkMafia/bd65bc54.jpg
The skirt modeled by my shapeless dress form:
The second is a straight skirt. Not quite an a-line but not a pencil skirt either. I love pencil skirts but never wear heels so this is a compromise.
The fabric:

The skirt:

Let me know what you think! I wanted to make something a little more funky but the fabric was so busy I didn't want it to be too much. I have more fabric (tradtional patterns) so if you have ideas please share. I think next I will make a wrap skirt.

thanks everyone. I live in Hawaii and there are lots of japanese people here so they carry japanese fabric everywhere. I'm thinking of buying it by the bolt and selling it. Would you buy some if I sold it for $6.50 a yard?

beautiful. I love the black one as I adore versatile clothes (i.e. wear to work and play). I think I could wear to work if I wore a conservative jacket (black, of course) with it.
the fabric is exquisite.

i'm officially in love with that black fabric. it looks hot as the skirt, but i think it would also look totally fab as a fitted shirt with short puffy sleeves

If you have enough fabric, maybe make a chinese-style top? Manderin collar and simple frogs across the front? Its a simple enough garment that I think the fabric wouldn't overdo it.

Oh I absolutely love the a line skirt. A line skirts are my favourite. <3 I wear them all the time. That is beautiful. I think I shall make some A line skirts for myself, and usually I'd just use plain material but thats so cute, you've changed my mind.

Those skirts are so pretty!! The fabric is so nice, did you get it online or a store local to you? I have a wholesale fabric shop a block from my house but the funkiest thing i've ever seen there was watermelon print. I could just imagine the bad picnic table jokes if i make that into a skirt. haha! Good job again! ( i especially like the blue one!)

I think it's great that you kept the designs simple...which is perfect for showcasing the pretty Japanese prints
