I was trying to make a quilt with Maple Leaves on it (since I'm from Canada) but had so much trouble with the stems that I left them out, which left me with more a flower pattern.  All I had for this was the square pattern so I had to decide how many to make, how to put them together, what borders to use and how to bind it.  It's approximately 61" x 61".  I'm open to any comments or critiques :-}

Nicely done! All of the seams line up, which is more than I can say for some of my efforts!

It's lovely. I was looking for a simple pattern that I could work on slowly, in between exams and classes. I was wondering what the measurement on the individual blocks?

Greatballoffire, the squares are 12" x 12" and I got the pattern off the internet but can't remember exactly where.  Try doing a google search for maple leaf.

It looks very nice. And kudos to you for not giving up but modifying your pattern instead.

I really like your quilt. I can't believe that it is your first large quilt. Have you made very many smaller quilts?  I really wish I knew how to put something like that together. I do not know how to quilt now, but I hope to find a way to learn how to quilt very soon. Anyway, I really think this quilt of yours looks like a pro had completed it.  Thanks for sharing!

bkbradle, I have made 2 baby quilts and 3 wall quilts before I made this one and this is much larger than any of the other ones.  I taught myself to quilt and I'm sure you can do the same.  One of my favorite web site is this:

http://www.quilterscache.com/QuiltBlocksGalore.html

I really like the patterns on it plus she gives wonderful instructions on how to put together the blocks.

Give quilting a try!  I'm sure you can do it.
