Hi! I'm half Swedish (and half Japanese) and live with my mom in California, but I visit my dad (I'm 14) in the summer/Xmas/school holidays in Sweden (Osterskar- I think? Some 'burb) and it's the pits. I usually spend about a least 3-4 weeks in the house doing absolutely nothing because:
a) I speak VERY minimal Swedish
b) my dad moved out Stockholm when got "married"
c) I have two half sisters that are ages 5 and 3

I know that I'm posting this in January, but after a very traumatic Xmas visit (involving an acute case of mono) I'm looking for suggestions for not having a crap time or any one willing to meet up for some craftiness/whatever. I very much appreciate any help i can get.

Well, I have a tip that might be of interest. Lava. It's a place in Kulturhuset in center of Stockholm, by Sergelstorg.
You make stuff, like t-shirts badges or read magazines or listen to demos. Or just have a cup of coffee. Lots of nice people your age. I'd say.

check sofo.se, it's a site that showcases a bunch a shop on the SoFo district (south of Faulkansgaten) the trendy place in stockholm for vintage clothes and indie records. Pet Sounds is a really amazing record store with  a lot of american indie rock/pop, very current, along with a coffe bar, art book section with couches and a large selection of curernt 'aleternative/indie' magazines. And you can can grab a free copy of the latest vice, cause they're in like evry store (and in english)

I'm sorry to say that there are not so many yarn stores in Stockholm. I'll list the ones I know (might not be all of them, I dont know)
Ljungqvists Garn, Karlbergsvägen 10, at Odenplan
Karla 48 Garn & Broderi, Karlavägen 48, at Östermalm
Nysta, Luntmakargatan 50, at the center of town
Garnverket, Hantverkargatan 14, at Kungsholmen
Sallys Garn, Ringvägen 64, at Södermalm

But I'd like for you to know about soe other intrresting places:
Folckers, Hornsgatan 52, at Södermalm, it's a very old shop with only (i'm not sure if its the right word but) string or cord
Sybehörsmagasinet, Nybrogatan 36, at Östermalm, sister of 80 years have had their shop for ages and you can find the most lovely things.
Mattssons Band, Kungsgatan 19, in the center of town, ribbons and applications
Rydströms Sybehör, Regeringsgatan 85, in the center of town, they sell applications ribbons and buttons
Simbra Siden, Upplandsgatan 24 at Vasastan near Odenplan, sell only silk and to quite good prices, for sweden

thanks!
i've got lots of time on my hands since i'm not doing very much except going to classes for swedish... i'll definitely be checking out those places...  Smiley
and i think... the place i'm going to take my classes is near odenplan! woo!!!
i don't really expect my boyfriend to know where even half of the yarn stores mentioned... but he's trying... he got all excited when he found the crafty store near höterget...
and so far i've only been to stockholm twice... so i've still got a lot of the city to explore...
