You make up the tote and the lining like normal, and the extentsion piece is just a tube of fabric the bag width.. which mine was 16 inches, and how much of an extentsion you want I chose 12 inches, but I think now that 8 inches was sufficient. You seam the extention to the tote top right sides together, the I made a 1 1/2 inch hem to cover the raw edges of the extention. You then make a 1/4 inch hem in the top of the lining and drop the lining into the tote and hand stitch the lining in.
