I'd suggest making your own - heck, gt the dowels, cut them to size, use an electric sharpener to get the pointy ends, and then get a group of people together to sand/smooth out the points. It should be a fairly quick project if you have a group. as for the 'knobs' on the ends, some fimo clay or even sclupy (cheaper, but just in white) in a ball pushed onto the end and baked will do. OR.. take some scrap yarn and wind it around and around on the ends like a little ball and use a dab of glue to keep the end of the yarn from unravelling. Or the reallllly cheapy way - take some rubberbands and wrap around the needle end to make a 'clump' .. this could even be the first project for the SnB you're forming - show them how to make their own needles.

Or maybe you could take up a collection? I'm sure that some of the people won't mind chipping in a couple of dollars towards the project....

Ebay rocks.

d'oh!  You beat me to it!

Also, check out the newest Jo-ann Flyer, their "stocking stuffer" sets of needles are on super sale right now.  I believe they come in a tube of 10 sets.  Pluse they're fun colors.  Smiley

I want to second (third? fourth?) the ebay thing...it's what I did about a year and a half ago when I was teaching a workshop for a not-for-profit...I still have a bunch of 10 inch needles in sizes 10, 10.5 an 11 that we didn't need.

The target near me had sets for $1 each, that might not be too bad of an option if they still have them
