I want to try to make a rasta kind of hat ( beret that hangs in the back to encase growing locs)to cover my new locs. I am a very new crocheter, I have only mastered SC( tons of pot holders & cosaters!)
DOes anyone have a pattern or where I can get one? thanks!

You can look on freepatterns.com for a simple hat and adjust the pattern.  For example, after you hhave begun the pattern and begin to just crochet around just keep crocheting until it is long enough for your hair.  Once you have the desired legnth then start to decrease and run elastic through the bottom.  I don't know if I explained that well enough or not.

Botton line is that you should not have a problem as a new crochter.  I suggest trial and error sometimes your imagination works better than a pattern.  Good Luck Smiley

If you are going to do a search for one call it a "Snood".  I believe that is what they call them.

Hey there--

I don't know if you got a pattern that works for you yet.  I know I looked all over the place and not a single pattern I found worked out for me.  So, I ended up creating my own.  I don't have the instructions written anywhere--I just sort of do it.  But, you can email me at fairychild42@hotmail.com , and we can try to work something out to help you.

thanks for all the replys,  I found a pattern & made one and it is great, except I used worsted weight ( I think )cotton & wearing the thing in this heat is going to give me a heat stroke. Now I know I can make one, I'm gonna try to use crochet thread next. Thanks I'll post a pix & the pattern link later
