Is anyone here from P-town?  I'm a new college student, and am looking to find new thrifting/crafting haunts.

Things I'd (and others I'm sure) be interested in knowing about:
  • good thrift stores
  • any area group or church rummage sales (esp. ones with bag sales!)
  • craft stores, like JoAnn's
  • yarn stores

Any information would be cool. Plus, it'd just be nice to know there's some craftiness going rampant here in Peoria!

Hrm. Try the Salvation Army over by the Super Wal*Mart. It always has interesting crap that inspires me. Hehe.

The Goodwill by the normal Wal*Mart is great for jewelry...either to wear on its own or to disassemble.

There's a Michael's at Big Hollow, by Target/Cub, etc. There used to be some sort of fabric store over in Metro Centre; not sure if there still is.

That's really all I can think of, heh.=) There's probably more, though.

Oh! And someone said that the Plato's Closet out at Grand Prairie is good, but I haven't gotten around to going yet.

There are tons of craft sales in the areas outside Peoria. I live in Metamora and just passed up a bunch in the fall (my hubby had to travel for work and we went with)
Washington has a great Goodwill. There is also another Goodwill off 150 near the McCluccage bridge.
I'll post more when I get back, if I see anything interesting.

I live in East Peoria...Joann is the craft store in metro center...it's a good one, you can get 40% off coupons on their website for 1 item, and use one each time you go there. Plus they have good sales. Hobby Lobby & Michael's are the only other ones I go to.

I love thrift shopping...there is a good store called Great Oaks Thrift shop on Knoxville...next to a florist shop, going TOWARDS 74. I like the etcetera shop in Eureka, and Goodwills around the area.

Happy Freezing cold November everyone!!

I just joined (well, actually, I joined quite a while ago, but just recently decided to make craftster one of my fav haunts!!!) and i live in Metamora.

I have noticed (and perhaps this is true for all larger cities) that the nicer the neighborhood, the nicer the stuff at the local Goodwill. The one in Washington is my favorite.....and it is nearby. The one on War Memorial is large and has a great selection almost all the time!

Love, Marla

Im about an hour from Peoria...anyone know where Streator is?

Thanks for listing all the thrift stores.  I have a friend in Chillicothe who loves thrift stores as much as me, so these could be helpful....

My favorite 2nd hand stores are the Mission.  There is one in East Peoria, One over on Stearling and one over on knoxville.  They r extremely reasonable and always have awsome things for crafts and refurbishing.  I also like the goodwills.  I'm not so hot about the salvation army.  I'm handicapped, and I have a hard time getting in their doors.

Also would be interested in your next get together, hornlinechick.  Goldie
