Swap name: The World Appreciation Swap
Craftster member who is organizing this swap: star69
Sign-up date range: January 22, 2006 to February 27, 2005.
Date to send item by: April 22, 2006
Limited to a certain number of people? (optional): 8
Non-U.S. participants allowed?: Yep!

All ages allowed? Or 18+? All ages

Organizer is aware of current list of "suspended traders"
list and will not allow those members to participate: YES

Organizer meets the 4 conditions for swapping and will make sure that every participant meets these conditions: YES

Details of swap: Okay, so, this swap is to show how much you love scenery and aspects of world culture. From landscapes to monuments, to icons to languages, here's how you can show how much you love diversity, and how you can celebrate your heritages through crafting!

I am giving everyone a LOOOONG time to craft (needed to emphasize that), and I am going to be very into the communication bit. Now that I have a new DSL connection, I'll be online very frequently. You can email be directly if you need to at esmerelda.ciao@gmail.com. Please, send me a DC number for you US folks, and scan receipts or give reciept numbers for international. I have previously organized, well, co-organized a CD swap, but this time, I'm on my own, and I shall be stricter for myself and for everyone else.

You are expected to craft at least one big item, and at least up to 2 or 3 smaller items - whether medium or small, or you can stuff the package with a number of goodies! Be like me and question like a crazy person about prefrence and likes. Some of the items such as souvenirs, fabric, postcards and costumes can be bought.

Examples of big items include:
Any Type of Clothing (Scarves, Shirts, Skirts, Jackets, Boleros/Shrugs, Costumes , Stencilled Stuff etc.) eg. I [heart] Paris! (or write it in French!)
Bags (Knitted, Crocheted, Stencilled etc.) eg. Scenes of Landmarks, Sayings etc.
Cushions (Beaded, Stencilled, Embroidered etc.) eg. Scenes of Landmarks, Monuments etc.

Examples of medium items include:
Pencil Cases
Pouches
Wallets
Jewellry
Stuffed Animals/Plushies
etc.

Examples of small items include:
Magnets
Postcards
Pins
Little Souvenirs
etc.

The items can show any aspect of the country/countries, whether it be a physical, cultural or lingual aspect of the country. Remember, not all wants can be met by your partner, but compromise is key in times like that. Remember, don't send anything TOO expensive, and package your items securely and properly, and wrap fragile things well.

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

QUESTIONNAIRE TO ANSWER:
Name of swap:
Craftster username:
Email address:
Your real name:
Mailing address:
Would you be willing to ship to an address outside of the US/Your own country?:
Would you like to craft something for your partner from your own country/background?:
What country/countries do you really admire for its cultural aspects?:
What landmark/scene/monument do you think is extremely beautiful (physically)?:
Is there a particular language you especially love?:
Are you intrested in getting a national costume from a country depending on your heritage or other reason?:
Is there any other aspect of a nations culture that you like? (A physical landform, a product etc.):

Remember, no racial jabbing or putting down of others' cultures! We're here to embrace each other!

IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE, REMEMBER TO SEND YOUR REQUEST AND INFO TO PARTICIPATE TO ORGANIZER VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE AND NOT TO REPLY WITH IT HERE. I WILL MATCH YOU UP WITH YOUR PARTNERS AND THEN YOU MUST RESEND HIM OR HER YOUR INFO. IF YOU CAN'T MANAGE TO DO SO, I'LL DO IT FOR YOU.

Also remember to read the Swap Info Guide to find out how to ship your item and other details about participating in a swap.

ok - so what happens if no one wants stuff from the country you're in/from? (eg. Australia) I can think of little things I can make - but a big thing? Uluru? And what if they don't want the kind of things I make?  OMG, I'm stressing already!!!

Make a compromise. The Sydney Opera House is a nice landmark. Or, you could do a craft with the shape of Australia, or animals from there. Be creative! You can do it!

Ok - I've now signed up for the unconditional swap -  think it might be better for my first swap - at least I'll know what people want and can choose according to what I do. I plan to send my parcel very soon so depending on how long Australia Post mucks around with it, maybe I'll still be able to join this one.

Star69 - thanks for your encouragement.

I have a question: Is this swap like "I live in _________ country and I only send stuff from my country"  Or is it "My partner admires stuff from India, and I have no idea about India, but I'll research and do crafts I think are Indian-esque"?

PS I LOVE HOUSE!!!
