In this swap, one big item and at least one small item will be sent. By big I mean something that take 3 hours or more or $30 or more is spent on supplies. A small item is one that takes 2 hours or less to make and materials cost $10 or less.

I'm still debating joining this swap, but as American Transcendentalism is my specialty, I can fill you in on lots of Poe facts that will help with your crafting.

- His mother was an actress who played Juliet for a time.  She couldn't afford a babysitter, so he had a front row seat to watch his mother die every night. 
- He learned to read and do math by reading tombstones and subtracting birth and death dates.
- When he was growing up, a large portion of the population had TB.  It was so bad that many women carried hankies embroidered with cherries or red roses, so that you couldn't notice the blood.
- He was not a drunk- he was very intolerant of alcohol (some say he had an allergy), and could easily become symptomatic of inebriation.
- The Cask of Amontillado can be interpreted as a critical look at the Free Mason's usurption of Catholic power (PM me if you want the details.
- My thesis is actually on how "The Fall of the House of Usher" is a critique of American Romanticism. (And how the Ushers were incestuous!)
- "The Raven" can be interpreted as a man falling into insanity. Note how the raven does not change; rather, the man begins to become wilder and wilder.  Also, the raven is perched on a bust of the Pallas Athena (Greek goddess of wisdom, and sanity).

I'm going to be working on mine this weekend - been surfing - I have learned so much more about Poe - always a fav but haven't looked or read up on him lately - Very interesting he's more of a fav than before <G>

Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with!
