Hi!

My name is Abbie and I've lived in the Seacoast area my whole life so I'm ultra-happy to see a NH board on this site!

I was wondering if anyone knew if there were any craft fairs in New Hampshire that were more like the Bazaar Bizarre/Renegade Craft Fair/etc?  I know there's Bow Street and Sunapee, but I was hoping for something a bit different.  I sell accessories and things on Etsy (http://missavocado.etsy.com) and would love to participate in some local craft fairs.

Thanks for any ideas,
Abbie

Hi Abbie,

There isn't much around...I've considered planning one too, like Sham. Maybe we should all get together on this.

I was wondering- I'm planning to do a craft fair in the winter, and I was wondering if you guys wanted to do like a "craftster collective"?

YES, WE NEED A CRAFTY COLLECTIVE!

I swear I'm going to start PM-ing people...since I've moved here to lovely NH, trying to get an actual organized group of crafters together to do anything has been not happening to say the least, and not for lack of trying.  I actually got desperate guys and signed up to join the slowly congealing BOSTON Craft Mafia because I'm tired of feeling so networkless up here.

Stoliedina is consistently posting and attempting to get meetup/consignment/interesting stuff happening but I haven't noticed a ton of other motivation happening...yes, yes people have lives, I know, so do I, but don't you ever dream of having some kind of awesome crafter network of people you can get together with, boothshare at fairs with, do crafts that don't involve freaking maple syrup or quilting with, and kick some crafter world domination with?!  You do, I know you do...well I know I do!

So if you're interested, if you have any vision of what such a thing may look like, what you might be looking for in a crafting collective, please either post here or PM me, I'm happy to get a list going and kick-start some networking.

In fact, here's a fabulous idea to start off with...how about a collective booth at the South End Open Market?  Eh?  I have booth space already anyway...anyone? Anyone?  Other ideas?  Stoliedina proposed the mini-fair in another thread...we've got the people, we've got the craftiness, but do we have the motivation?

I want to see some posting people!

Lol,

Katy - what's the South End Open Market all about, I've never heard of it? I don't have good stash of merch right now, and won't until July - I'm getting married at the end of June - but it's sounds like something I'd be interested in.

I am a newbie here but that is one of the reasons i was thrilled to see a NH board!  I would love to see something where we could work together..pass on info about fairs, share booths and even a monthly get to gether would be FAB!  (and i am busy too..have an almost 4 yr old..but i can find a way to get some free time too!)  So count me in!  And more info on the fairs..where and when?

I love the monthly get together idea, brilliant!  My dream is to get a weekly get together going but considering NH geography constraints that might be pushing it Smiley

As for fairs info...here in Concord there's Market Days in July.  The deadline to get involved has passed but I thought I'd post the info anyway because it's a yearly event and it's good to know what's out there.  I wrote to the organizers to see how much it cost to get involved--a 10 x 10 space is $375 for three days.  I was shocked at the high price.  Concord isn't exactly a town that's packed with a lot of eager shoppers, so I was skeptical about the high cost of participation and whether it would even be worth it...so I talked to some people who have been to it before who indicated that there weren't a lot of handcrafters involved generally, that it's a lot of junk food/carnival food vendors, and local shops selling their stuff outside, like a sidewalk sale.  Doesn't really sound like an event geared toward handcrafters.  Way to support your community crafters, eh Concord Wink ?  I gave them my polite two cents worth about that, complete with a cost breakdown...and received a predictable response about what a great event this is for the community but that they would pass along and think over my comments....eh...

South End Open Market in Boston is the only other market/fair I have personal knowledge of, here's the link to their website:  www.southendopenmarket.com

The long and the short is that it's an outdoor open market featuring handcrafters, farmers, vintage sellers and the like.  The cost is $50 per 10 x 10 booth per Sunday--a minimum purchase is 5 dates, but if you pay for them all at once, one of your dates is free, so you get 5 dates for $200.  Take THAT Concord, NH Wink  Booths may be split/shared by groups/pairs of crafters as long as everyone submits their own application.  I have reserved 5 slots already, so I'm committed, but would love to have others join me for one or more dates if interested.  Great way to try out the whole market thing and see if it's for you.

I'll start another thread specifically for posting info about fairs so we can collect it....

I'd be interested in doing either a get together, or sharing a booth.  I have to take a test for work next weekend, but after that I should be able to start building up inventory....

I've lived here for two years and find it is very difficult to meet new people outside of work.

BTW, I'm in Milford.

My two other craftster-addicted friends and I would definitely be interested in a New Hampshire craft collective. Two of us live in Manchester and the other in Milford, but most of the year we are students at Plymouth State, where we all live together in a wonderful crafty house. But we are definitely willing to travel.
