hey you're here too! :p

I ususally post a little ad under someone else's comment. It has a picture of my bird's nest rings and then a link to it. So far people have been adding me and I just have to accept the adds and keep on adding the ads. I havent been actively adding people unless I happen to see someone from Etsy that I know.

Does that make sense? :p

Okay so that's how it works. I have been getting a lot of requests to add people but have not actively been asking people for adds - tricky.

HI Carol
I don't know how the online craft shows work either.  I hope she sends us instructions in advance.  I have never done one before so I hope we do get some sales out of it..

Wendy

I was wondering how this guys turned out for you? Any good business?

Personally I would like to see a thread with everyones etsy shop listed with a breif blub of what they sell. Heck, I would love to buy from people but somes it really hard to find etsy shops from people on here.

Most of the people on craftster that have an etsy shop...will include their address in their signature... so make sure you check everyones signatures... personally, I'm addicted to clicking on peoples signature links  Grin doesn't matter if its a blog or a web store...I just love to get a peek into others lives... maybe I'm weird!

What a good idea to start a thread with etsy plugs...

I've told those I'm friends with.  I'm ordering business cards (anyone have suggestions re: good places?), and joining (gasp, wail) myspace and facebook.  My shop link is... well, I don't think it's in my signature here, because I had crafty wists to share and ran out of room, but it's in my profile here and in every other profile and signature I've got.

My advertising plans are more ambitious than what I've yet accomplished.  I hope to get into some consignment stores so that people browsing those (plainmable, cutxpaste, copacetique, etc.) can get a link back to my etsy store.  I have a blog for the store, though I need to change the name on it to fit the theme.  I'm desperately awaiting the "shop crafty" area of craftster to reawaken (and not only for advertising- I want to shop my fellow craftsters), and have contemplated buying an ad (it would support craftster, which is good, but somehow advertising to people who can make it themselves seems... not good) or donating a prize to the craft challenges (not sure how to do this or even if I can).  I e-mailed the nearest craft mafia (Denver), but no response on that yet, and I'm contemplating founding my own (Fort Collins).  Finally, I'm working on some stuff for http://www.homeofthesampler.com and posting to craigslist under "creative services".

When the school year fires up again, I might look into advertising in my school newspaper, and I'm considering founding a school club of crafters- then I'd get CSU support and we could possibly throw craft fairs in the student center around the holidays whereupon I could hand out business cards to everyone who moves.  Furthermore, if I make a student club, it'd be easier to get an actual article in the college newspaper.

Long way to go.  I only started on Etsy recently, and have yet to make a sale, so I suppose I should get started on the list.

I posted this in the HUMONGOUS etsy thread but it really belongs here. So this once I'm double posting.  Embarrassed

One thing regarding publicity....I work in a BIG office building with a general information bulletin board on each of the 17 floors, some floors have two. Anyone can post fliers on these boards. You do not have to work in the building to post something.  Actually, this is how I found an AWESOME new yarn store in town. I also know the state capitol building has these same bulletin boards on the lower level near the cafeteria and elevators. So I would guess other buildings do as well.

So, think about places like this where you can post fliers about your shop. You can reach a ton of new customers this way....over 1000 people work in my building alone!

An idea for the bath and body people, I put a bottle of lotion in our ladies room (at my 9to5) for communal use and sold 4 bottles of it so far.
