I was in a store checking out the yoga bags and they really looked like a pant leg to me so that got me thinking. I've made a ton of these. Everytime I'm at the thrift store I pick up drawstring pants. Here's the directions --- super easy.
Here's the finished product:

Here's how to do it. Find a pair of drawstring pants:

Cut them in half:

figure out how much of the pant leg you need and cut the top of the pant leg off. The leg will not be rectangular so cut it so it is:

Next figure out what is going to be your strap. Sometimes the pants come with really cool belts, but if not you can make one out of the waist or use a belt or get creative. In this case I used the waist of the pants.
Now cut a hole a couple inches from the bottom (the drawstring side) to insert the strap:

Do the same with the top half (you don't need to cut it because there is a hole from the trimming). Turn it inside out and sew it:

Now find some fabric from the top part that was cut off to make the base. I like to use the pockets just because. Cut that piece in a circle estimating the bottom and sew it. I use a pretty heavy stitch to make sure it will hold.

All done!

This rocks so much, I feel a need to join a Yoga group... and to visit the thrift shop.  You've made a kick-bum-bag!

This is so great! I am going to do this after I make homemade sleeping bags! This will be perfect to tote them in! Also, you know how you can never get the tent back in the bag it comes in?!? This is the perfect solution for that too! Make a bigger one! Add two straps instead of one, and it could be a back pack! I was making couch pillows out of pant legs for awhile. Nice velvet pants turned into those little round pillows!

That is such a good idea! It makes me feel like my yoga mat needs a bag to be stored in...

Thanks for all the nice comments.

Also, you know how you can never get the tent back in the bag it comes in?!?

Tent bags do need to be slightly bigger. I love that idea!
