geek-pride- To answer your questions, the dummy is only quasi-homemade (a friend of mine found a store where they were giving away fashion manequins, but in order to fit my measurements I had to add some extra padding--I think the last time I had a 24-inch waist was when I was ten.) And I did use a storebought pattern to start with (mainly because I have no confidence in my ability to successfully draft a pattern from scratch, as it's never worked yet), but did some very heavy alterations to it.

Chellechan- I actually didn't have much of a problem with the brocade fraying or slipping or anything. So it wasn't bad to work with at all.

geek-pride-- I'm not into knitting, but I just might have to check out that thread now. That hat was the funniest thing EVER.  Grin
