OK, so I know I just posted, but I'm changing my entry to a poster bag from SNB Nation, but I'm going to put Frankenstein's face on the front.

I just signed up today!!! I must have a death wish... I'm going to do the infamous Rogue...  Grin  I've wanted this sweater from the first time I saw it... maybe this will finally be the motivation to DO IT!!! :-) Time to buy some yarn and swatch!

I have a feeling I'm definitely going to be an underdog in these here Olympics but living in the host city for 2010, I just have to give it a go!

I seriously feel your pain.  I just use the Knitter's Handy Book of Patterns, by Ann Budd (my saint!), now and adapt the patterns as necessary -> scoop neck, trim, bell sleeves, whatever.  Most knitter designers are just cruel to buxom women.  Also, Debbie Bliss is okay.  Thought I'd pass my learnings on  Cheesy

Thanks for the advice. I've seen that book, but I've never looked into it more. I may have to check it out. Smiley

I couldn't have made it in wool, unfortunately, I would be too hot. I live in Vancouver and I have a really high body tempature... I can't use 100% wool, alpaca, or acrylic for pullovers, just cardigans, because then I can take them off easier. If I am going to make a knitted shirt (by that I mean something close to my skin w/o something on underneath) I usually pick a cotton acrylic blend yarn.

How weird eh? A knitter who can't wear wooly pullovers!  Roll Eyes

I hear that.  I can't live w/o wool, so I try and work it into projects, anyway - blends are fun.  What yarn do you use?  I'm an addict of Fortissima cotton, it's a cotton/nylon(?) blend; but really reall fine - it'd be cool to find something that was, like, sport weight or bigger  Cheesy

I haven't used lots, but heard really good things about these yarns, all available at elann.com, and all are aran/ bulky/superbulky:

Austermann Ciao
Classic Elite Illusion
Katia Pisco
Katia Spray
Schachenmayr Aurora
ONline Linie Orlando
Katia Serpentina
Debbie Bliss Cotton Silk Aran
Endless Summer Collection Connemara
Katia Ancla
Katia Denim
Katia Florida

Thanks Loisgriffinwannabe, I'm thinking about doing Blackberry from knitty and it calls for bulky yarn too.

I just signed up just now my event?  My first sweater and it has cables, but I love cables so it's not really a challenge.

i would say that as long as finishing the sweater in 16 days is a challenge for you, then there's no question that it's totally acceptable.
i love lace & cables.  my pattern falls in the lace category...  but, it's still going to be a challenge for me to finish it in 16 days.

remember that the athletes are the best in the sports that they are competing in,  & are entering the events they are best at.

I've done sweaters, I've done cables, but a.) not both at the same time and b.) cables quite like these... I can tell this is going to drive me crazy! :-)
