I was commissioned (sp?) to make this purse/giganto thing to be a switch out purse for a co-worker.  She's already got one this size, and requested a second, so she can wash them, etc.  I have to say, so much sweat, tears and frustration went into this, I'm ready to throw it across the room.. It's done, but I'm not happy with it (perfectionist, are we?).  This was the first of several techniques, pockets, a zipper top, a sturdy bottom and less sturdy sides.  I found out later, I went about adding the zipper the absolute hardest, most frustrating way that I could have.  Next time, the tinafish way it is Smiley  any feedback is greatly appreciated - I never want to make another bag like this in my life!!!  Gah.

Front:

Front Pockets(the sideways design - this way it's not so hard on the eyes):

Interior Detail (this pocket gave me so much hell!!! ACK!):

Feet (sorry for the blurry pic):

Anyone?   Undecided

take a second, breathe. throw it across the room, then set it up somewhere, sleep, and look at it tomorrow! it looks really good! you may be a perfectionist and thats okay..but like i said, it looks really good Smiley shes gonna love it!

and of course you did the zipper the hardest way, thats usually how it works out. im attempting to make a bag and im pretty sure im doing all of the thing on it, the hardest way too.

i also love those fabrics!

Thanks!  I might just have to take your suggestion.  Smiley  Also, I had given her a discount of 15% for Artist Dissatisfaction, because the pocket's not centered, and somehow the straps aren't either.  What do you guys think?  Is this fair, or should I charge the full price?

I think you should be able to charge extra for artist frustration.  Wink

I think it's wonderful, though. If you think she'll care about minor imperfections, give her a discount, but with all the effort you put into it I think it would still be fair to charge her full. Thats my opinion. Smiley

I don't see why you wouldn't charge the full price.

I mean, it isn't full of holes from repeated seam ripping, and the stripes are all straight (kudos to you for that!), and there isn't anything else at all obviously "off".  There is no reason to give a discount for this bag (especially 15%!!).

I too, am a perfectionist, and while YOU see the off-center pocket (like a flashing "look at this" sign - EVERY stinkin' time you look at it!) - I can guarantee that no one else will ever notice.

This bag is beautiful, and you deserve (wait, you have earned) every last penny of the original price!

Thanks for your replies guys Smiley  They make me feel tons better. I went ahead and gave her the discount.  I feel like it's worth it, since I don't know her really well, she might be a perfectionist too.  I'd rather take a small hit and have her be happy and tell others about me, instead of noticing all these things and thinking I was too lazy to fix it, or that I'd think she wouldn't notice.  We'll see how it pans out - she's leaving our company, tomorrow's her last day, so hopefully others will like her bag and she'll send them to me Smiley  Thanks again for letting me vent!

Today I went back into work (I had yesterday off when I dropped off my co-worker's bag), and I had a message on my phone from her.  I thought, uh oh, here we go.  But NO!  She wanted to order another purse!!!  She wants a smaller one, so she'll have matching bags.  I'm SO STINKING EXCITED   Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

The bag looks great - and I wouldn't sweat it too much about the off centered pocket.  I think offering to give her the discount due to the off centered-ness is nice.  But like the other's said - we notice all those things because we're the ones that made the mistakes.  Other people never notice those items.

Nice bag - nice work... perfectionism and all.

"But why don't you scream now?" Alice asked, holding her hands ready to put over her ears again.

"Why, I've done all the screaming already," said the Queen. "What would be the good of having it all over again?"
