I saw that project that someone did where they checkered they're counter and bathroom ceiling with contact paper and I thought it looked awesome. Since then i thought it would look cool to do it to my ceiling in my room because they're just plain white squares but when i asked my mom about it she said absolutely not to paint or contact paper (she said its hard to get off?) so does anyone have any idea's they could share that would help me with how to find a way to do it and have her agree to it so if she wants to change it when i move out it wont be a big hassle?

Maybe you could paint checkers on a sheet and tack it to the ceiling?  depending on what kind of ceiling finish you have, it might not even require caulking the tack holes when you take it down...

Target by where I live has those awesome wall stickers that are easily removable and they were on sale or clearance when I saw them there for about half price, I'd go check your target.  They make some really cool designs in them.  Or maybe cut neat silouhettes out of constuction or other colored paper and use double sided tape to stick them up with.
