I am going to be moving to Hilo in February, and I have no clue where anything is.  I'm guessing that there won't be much in the way of yarn stores, but is there a cool place to get general art supplies, beads, and the like?  also, how do I meet cool people out there?  I'm scared I won't fit in at all, which I guess isn't so important, but still...

There's a yarn store on Kam hwy in Hilo right next to KTA. It is a decent place and they have $5 knit/crochet classes. Everyone is a grandma but very nice. The only place to get craft stuff is WalMart or Ben Franklin.

I know this is kinda old, but I'm posting here in case anyone else needs help finding a place in Hilo.
There are quite a few fabric and craft stores, The Yarn Barn is still on Kam HW, next to KTA. There is a Discount Fabric Warehouse, with extremely cheap, quality fabric on Pohaku St, next to Wal-Mart/Cd Wizard. There is also a Bernina Store in the downtown area. There is an Art Store near Hilo High School/Bay Front.

There's also Craigslist, and you can even narrow it down to the Big Island now (used to be the whole state).

Hope you're enjoying Hilo; we've been down by South Point for the last 8 months and are finally moving back to civilization... OK, Puna, but closer to civilization than where we are now!
