I'm knitting a vest, and I've just cast on the back and it looks like it's going to be incredibly wide?  Could I be underestimating the width of a size large?  it's a gift, so I can't get exact measurements of the recipient. It's knitted to the pattern gauge, but it's almost 25" wide -- is that too wide for the back of a size large top?  help!

You're asking about width, not length, right? Your subject line is a tad confusing.  Wink

What does the pattern specify for size L? Surely it gives you the finished measurements for the vest? If you're getting the correct gauge, and cast on the correct number of stitches, you should be fine. And 25" does not sound "incredibly wide" for a size L to me. Seems like you're underestimating the measurements of us fatties.  Grin

fatties?  oh no no no!  As an XXL -- I just envision a regular L to be tiny! Wink

I've got the gauge, definitely, but the finished measurements are for the width of the entire vest, not just the back . . .  it just seemed . . . big.
