Haralds sometimes has good prices on fabric. There is one on Papanui Road (lots of buses go past),  I think it is opposite subway, or at least it isnt far from it. There is another Harolds on Birmingham drive. It is bigger but it doesnt have particularly good bus access. Sometimes it is a bit hit and miss as I think that most of their fabric is stuff that couldnt be sold elsewhere, however, on saying that I once got cool dinosaur flanelette from the one on papanui road, and astronaut and nice floral cotton at the shop on Birmingham drive.

Hey Guys,

(New Chch person checking in)

I have found the best place for storage boxes is The Warehouse, they have them on sale every couple of weeks but they are usually cheap anyway. The ones that roll under the bed I have found are the best. I also tend to get tackle boxes/tool boxes from there for the little bits (scissors, pins, etc) they are SO much cheaper then buying a "sewing box"

Oh wow, I didn't even think of the Warehouse lol. It's probably the most obvious place. Cheers for that Smiley And yeah, I've nicked off with my dad's old fishing boxes Smiley They're really handy for jewelery making and just sewing stuff in general.

Bealey Ave? Man, I don't even know where that is. Are there any buses that go there?
*sigh* It's not easy being 14.

Hehe, it's one of the four main avenues in the city centre!  I live on Bealey Ave!  Haven't seen an op shop though... I thought it was on Cranford St maybe?  Or Fitzgerald Ave?  Some people from work went there, I'll ask.

Went past the $2 clothing warehouse yesterday (didnt have a chance to go in though Sad). It is on Settlers Cresent in Ferrymead (just off Ferry Road). If you were wanting to bus there you would probably take the 3Avonhead/Sumner and get off outside Woolworths.

Oh theres one on Cranford too, a bit further down the road (away from papanui) from the Papanui Savemart. But the sign on the door of the old Sydenham $2 op shop said it had moved to Bealey!

Well, hi, I'm new here and was delighted to find a NZ board Cheesy So I'll try to ressurrect this thread - I don't think anyone's mentioned Tasman Traders yet. It's a GREAT opshop, everything is $4 and I got an amazing 60s bright blue cape and an old man hat. It's on Byron Street in Sydenham - go and have a look! I go there quite a lot and have never been disappointed. Today there were quite a few nice big retro coats and heaps of quirky old hats.

yay! a christchurch thread! I basically live in the st margarets boarding house on papanui and seeing how I've only been in chch for a year, I have no idea where to shop for beads. I've only been to beadz unlimited and the bead shop on manchester, but both are uber expensive and frankly, I don't have the capital to splash on the stuff there =S

Are there cheaper bead shops anywhere around?
