i'm sick too! knitting is about all i am capabl of doing right now.

i'm making the big guy, and i think i'm going to try felting him when i'm done - i showed my husband a pic of the needle-felted totoro that someone posted here, and he said, "well of course totoro has to be felty!" so this knitalong will not only be my first, it'll be a big experiment for me too!

I really want to do this -- I am obsessed with totoros!  But I am very new to knitting and I don't think I can make up a pattern yet  Sad  But I googled "totoro pattern" and look what I found!

it doesn't look like it would be all that hard, right?  knit kind of a tubular shape and some ears and decorate it all with felt...?

ooh, that is sooo cute!!

i'm making up my pattern as i go along, but that's basically what i'm doing... knitting a rectangle which i'll sew up the back to make a tube. i've done a bit of shaping, but not much. i wish my camera was working!!

are pictures working yet?? because i have a few pics of my totoro - he's all sewn up and ready to felt!

here he is flat and looking like a weird ghost creature:

here are his ears and tail getting ready to be attached:

and here he is assembled! i just need to get him felted & sew on some eyes, nose, and whiskers!

sorry the pictures are so crumby... our good camera has gone missing, some i'm stuck using the crappy one.

i'm almost done!

i felted my totoro yesterday, and he's just drying out now. i've made the whiskers, just have to attach them, embroider his eyes and nose, and tack his ears into place! and stuff him properly, once he's dry. right now he's just full of plastic bags. i'll post the pattern on my blog later tonight or tomorrow...

This one's quite realistic. But it's done in crochet, not knitted.

Disclaimer: I did not create this. Found it by chance on the internet.

It was featured on Flickr here.
