http://www.plasticsoul.org/18seconds.html

my first cabled hat project! it's so adorable and fun. i added a longer i-cord and giant poms.

the color is more of a dark chocolatey brown, by the way.

& it turned out so great, i decided to make another one in an olive-y color.

it was so easy to make. the only qualm i had was the sizing was just a bit too snug. thank jeebus for blocking! now it fits perfectly. i suggest using a size 10 or 10 1/2 if you're not going to be using a yarn that is mostly wool.

Thats great! I was thinking of making another Jayne hat http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=19076.0 (in a different colourway) but that is much more girly and interesting. Might enlarge the flaps a little, I got chilly ears.

Kittiecat --- Check this out:   http://www.dummies.com/WileyCDA/DummiesArticle/id-879.html

That's how I learned to cable Smiley The one they give is very basic and everything, but it gets your head around the whole concept, ya know?

oh, the Jayne hat is great! i made several hats based on that pattern. i'm actually on the third page of that thread, too. Tongue but the cables for this particular hat blew me away, and it was a lot more interesting to knit up.

Very pretty!  I like it quite a bit and I think I should make it immediately.
Did you use the Lamb's Pride Bulky or what?  I think I might pick something else, it tends to make my head quite itchy.

These are beautiful.  So cozy looking.  And I'm totally envious of your glass head.

Those glass heads are awesome!

This hat looks like a good initiation to cables - no one found them too intimidating?

The pom poms on yours are so neat - I'll mimic and make mine beastly huge too...Smiley

Cables LOOK intimidating, and I was scared to try them for a long time.  I did the SnB Nation "Basic Cable" hat over Christmas vacation, and was amazed at HOW easy they are.

Of course, I misunderstood the directions the first time 'round.  I thought that you put the stitches on a cable needle and finish the round, picking up the stitches on the *next* round.  I had a hat with 3 cable needles and 5 dpns "holding" the stitches.  I should have taken a picture, because it was funny.  Once I figured out what I did wrong (that's not the way to do it, kids), it was easy as pie.

Thanks for sharing this pattern.  Did you use Lamb's Pride as recommended or did you use something else?  I love love Lamb's Pride but it can be hard to come by in Indianapolis.

Those are beautiful. I was working on this hat before Christmas, but I had to put it down to finish Christmas presents. You've just inspired me to pick it up and finish it.  Grin

Why is it called "18 Seconds Before Sunrise?" Is it some allusion to... something... that... I mean... eh??

It's very pretty though. *goes back to knitting a stupid rectangle as always*

i did use lamb's pride. they had some really great colors, too!

Sammiedora - it's a reference to a song from Sigur Ros. i think she explained that it was playing on repeat for this particular project.

Hi Atomikpop,

OH, I am so envious....I love the hats!   I am kinda stuck right now.

I am a bit confused....I have done cables before, so I know what it is supposed to look like, and they are looking strange right now....anyhow, am I supposed to join in the beginning or not?

lumpui - i'm not sure if i'm understanding what you're asking. it is knit in the round, so of course it is joined in the beginning. or did you have a question about the cables?
