Following the dying art thread...Im also a cross stitcher (amongst other styles) and also majorly pissed at whats available in patterns. Id like to see more retro/funky patterns. More edgy, more alternative. But I dont know of any (except of course subversive cross stitch). Does anyone here know of cross stitch designers doing this? And if you could choose, what kind of cross stitch designs would get YOU interested.

Personally, Id like 50s style cartoons, pinups etc.

For me, it is all about fantasy, dragons, faeries, etc. Beyond that, it is really whatever catches my eye for a certain person, what fits their style.  But I know what you mean, it seems there are a lot of "country" patterns.

I have a variety of what I like to do. I do mainly stitch ladies and faeries with Mirabilia being my favorite for those - http://www.mirabilia.com/crossIndex2.html.

I also really love the quality of Heaven and Earth Designs. These are some BAP's but are absolutely beautiful when finished and look so like the original paintings - http://www.heavenandearthdesigns.com/

Monsterbubbles are unique patterns. She uses swirls a lot and song lyrics to make some pretty cool patterns - http://www.monsterbubbles.com/

Then there are patterns that you just find and love. You may only like the one out of all that the designer has created but it's still one. I always like to just look at patterns available both www.123stitch.com and www.abcstitch.com have huge selections.

Other than fairies and simple, single bloom flower patterns, the only cross-stitch designs I love are here.  http://www.calicocrossroads.com/he/category_results.cfm?Category=5 They're adapted from an artist's cartoons about black cats.   Since I have two black cats, it's perfect, and so many of the situations I've actually (sometimes unfortunately) personally experienced.

Also, at least for me, Christmas designs are mostly okay, not the ones that are over the top country, but I've found I can tolerate a little more when it comes to Christmas decorations.  Smiley
