Hi all
I'm in a gifted and talented program at school, which basically consists of each student doing a year long project. I would really like to do a project which would help people, but I have no clue whatsoever as of one to do. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for a project which I could do. Remember, the project has to be a year-long project, meaning I have about 8 months to work on it. It has to be pretty big, and has to be approved etc.

Thanks in advance!

I heard a great story of students who, for their big school project, made a website to sell crafted items online, and all the money raised went to a charity.  The crafted items were all donated to them specifically to raise money for that charity.

good luck!   Smiley

I would donate items for your site. I am a total fan of charitable causes. PM me if you decide to go for this and need some items.

Can you tell us any more about the goals of the project?  For instance, are you supposed to be demonstrating specific talents?  Your ability to manage and organize other people?  Is it a competition among students to show who can make the most important social impact?  Is the project graded?  If so, on what basis?

The idea being discussed so far is cool but seems like a huge undertaking for one full-time student.

A narrower alternative might be for you to make a small number of really high quality quilts (or other high-skill items) to be auctioned off for charity, maybe through Ebay or something.  This kind of project would take some time and skill but might be more doable depending on what your crafting abilities are.  You could create a website to advertise and explain the purpose of the auction.

If you are supposed to be demonstrating organizing or management skills, you might do a project where you coordinate a broad network of volunteers to craft a simple thing to be donated to charity.  I'm not promoting this particular item, but here's a thread I started to give you an idea of what I mean: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=41482.0  If you wanted to do something like this, you might make some contacts first with human service leaders in your community to find out what kinds of things are needed.

Just some thoughts...
