I'm looking for some tips for making a Mike Nesmith hat.  Far as I can tell, it's 1x1 rib for a good couple of inches for the turned-up part... then is the rest just stockenette stitch, or is that ribbed too?  I want to make one with the buttons on it.

Or, uh, does no one have any idea what I'm talking about?

I remember the short one with the pom on top - but I don't remember one with buttons.....can you find a picture?
The one with the pom is just a regular hat with the edge folded up - I made on for my Dad a couple of years ago - with a big dense Pom pom added

There's a vlack & white pic here that gives a side view. It looks like it's 1x1 ribbing all over.

Yeah.. for a while I thought maybe it was fisherman's rib, but it just looks like plain 1x1, huh?  Anyone hazard any guesses for me how many stitches I should cast on & how big/long/whatever it should be?  I haven't made very many hats...

Ah, Michael Nesmith...my mom went on a date with him when she was in high school.

I have nothing of importance to share, I just like to brag. Tongue

it looks like it's a pretty big gauge - if his ear is 2" across, the gauge might be like 1 row/inch.  If you measured the head of the person you're making it for, and then swatched with some bigger needles/yarn, it should be pretty easy ot match up.

Shocked Don't tell me that!  I'm madly in love with him, and very upset that I was born a few decades too late.  Cry
