Honestly, each FAQ is done according to the moderator's specifications. Each one is fairly different.  I would just section off different questions.

I guess that's what I'm asking... just what are the possibilities for separating different topics in a faq?

And if the faq is always just a thread, does that mean the only option would be to make a huge long thread, with each message in the thread about a different topic?  (then those looking for a particular topic would have to go through every page of messages to find the part they were interested in?)

There are a variety of options, depending on how creative we can be.  Smiley

I guess it would help me to suggest different formats if I know just how many topics are you considering?  We could make a few threads (but you don't want to hog the board), so it would probably end up as one longer thread.  But it depends on what topics ... do ya have any ideas?

LOL... I was kind of trying to work it the other way!  Grin ... that is, how many topics would be reasonably allowed?
I could easily do one for every "page" at my site (and I'd say there are about 75 of them, of which a few could be combined or left out).  Even though each topic would be greatly summarized, they could still be long if I really give good info about it.

No, that's exactly what I wouldn't want to do... if possible, I'd prefer some way to have one stickied faq thread only, which somehow lead to all the individual topics.

Well, if I did them all (and I have no idea that I would, but knowing what I'd be allowed would determine a lot about what I started with, and how much I included, etc.), there could be as many as the list below (...those are already excluding the ones at my site on polymer as a business--selling, photographing, teaching, etc.-- various polymer groups, claying with disabilities, and some other topics).

Also, there's the question of lessons for different techniques (not the same as faq's)...and there are many techniques in polymer clay.
Would those be in separate threads?... or would there be a way to just put links to them in the relevant topic's faq?  Again, I have no idea how many I'd end up doing (some I already have in some form or another), but I'd be less crazy if I knew what made sense to try and cover, and what format they would be in.

So here are most of the topics covered at my website.
The first eighteen are more or less the "basics" of using polymer clay, and the rest are particular techniques plus types of things polymer clay is generally used to make:

I would just have the FAQs as the very basic questions & answers.
For example, are there any acronyms people ALWAYS ask about?

I'm not sure which topics, because I'm not that familiar in the PC area, but I'm sure there are some very basic Q&A that could be used.  Then maybe have a lists of resource links at the bottom, one which could be yours.

I don't think it needs to be extremely long or even anything from your site, if we just included a link to your site at the bottom & people could research there if they wanted.

I'll try to find some time later today to review the PC board & see if I can figure some out.

Are you asking about this [ACCEPTED] Polymer Clay Board? right here, or are you asking about the 2 new polymer boards we recently got as a result of petitioning in this thread on the Suggest New Boards and New Features board?

Definitely feel free to ask questions over in the new Polymer Clay--Discussions and Questions board... that's what it's there for!!  Here's a direct link if you haven't already checked it out:
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?board=239.0

The other polymer clay board is called Polymer Clay--Completed Projects... that's also where any tutorials will be:
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?board=238.0

(if you ask questions here, not many people will see them because we've all mostly moved over to the new boards  Sad)

Well I have an online polymer clay "encyclopedia" called GlassAttic that can answer most any questions related to polymer clay (also has lessons, examples, etc.), but it's pretty huge and you'd need to start on the Table of Contents page probably (see link in my sig).

If there's a particular area of interest for you in polymer clay, you could always start on that page, but there's also a page called Kids & Beginniners which covers a little bit of everything (plus there are specific "basic" pages on baking, different brands of clay, conditioning, making clay shiny--finishes or sanding/buffing, etc. which you'll also see on that Table of Contents page).

HTH,
