Hi everyone,

Recently there was a thread srtarted about how to make a roach clip for smoking joints. The Craftster member who started this did a really great job making the item with cool handmade beads. And to her credit she didn't really talk about what the item was used for in her original post nor did she glorify pot smoking. I really appreciate that she posted it to show off what she made and not to talk about pot smoking. But alas, the topic of smoking pot and a whole bunch of back and forth ensued in the thread.

We got lots of complaints about how this type of post should not be allowed. And after much debating and discussion with myself and amongst the moderators and with the people who complained, I've decided to delete this post and any future posts that relate directly to participating in an illegal activity.

I know that there Craftster readers who are going to be very upset about this. And many Craftster readers would be upset to have me leave the thread there. Running Craftster has made me learn that I can't please everyone and that's hard to deal with.

It was a very hard decision for me because I want Craftster to be a place that's open-minded and welcoming of a variety of lifestyle choices. But the fact of the matter is:

a. that it's illegal to smoke pot in the U.S. (unless medically prescribed in some states)
b. some young and impressionable Craftsters might get the idea that it's OK to do it because they read that other Craftsters do it

Some people are going to think it's silly to ban posts related to smoking pot because they think pot is no big deal. But for those who think it's no big deal, think about how you'd feel if someone posted a handmade heroine needle cozy or handmade crack pipe. I have to draw the line somewhere and since pot is an illegal drug just like heroine is, it makes sense to draw the line there.

So.. there it is. A new rule. This kind of thing is my least favorite part of running Craftster. Please don't spew venom at me.

I think you're right to do this.  Who knows what legal snarls these posts could cause you if they remain?  Besides, this is a crafting site.  Good call.

Simply based on the fact that it is, generally speaking, illegal. I think you made the only decision you could.
