Oooooh, round 3... sounds tempting.  What would be the timeline?  I'm already signed up for the Inuyasha Swap, and kinda need to organize the mass handspun swap... and there's the Knitting Olympics right now.

Anyway.  Craftster doesn't hate my office's computer, too much, it seems.  Cuz, I got it to upload the photos!  Wow.  The Fates were smiling today.

I decided to name the revamped purse Decobi.  Here were some of Bobolink's specs:

Quote from: Bobolink
I love any old, vintage, retro and mod looking stuff and patterns- but I really like modern stuff too. I also love patterns etc.. from other cultures. Like asian fabrics or mexicana.

...I love the purse in general. It's vintage and I love the shape, the vintage feel and the clasp. But I don't like the color and the fabric is definitely faded and needs sprucing up. So in this case I think making an already beautiful purse even more fabulous is what I'm after. You don't have to worry about completely changing it, just give it a kick. I was also thinking elegant for going out, since that is the feel of the purse to begin with. So maybe darker more elegant colors would be great.

Here's Bobolink's purse B4:

Here it is being introduced to the fabric, a Chinese rayon Jacquard I found completely by accident right before recieving Bobolink's purse (how lucky!):

And here is the finished front, the buttons are actual 1920's Czech Art Deco buttons, which I grabbed at a Trunk Show the week before the swap started (this swap was blessed or something!):

And the back, also with the matching buttons:

The beaded-fringe trim is from an *upholstery* store (I grabbed so much yardage of their trim...), and I covered it with a twill tape for stability.

I was glad I got it off to Bobolink, too, because my mum kept petting it.  I gave her the left over fabric, tho, for consolation  Wink

Wow, fyberduck, that is beautiful! I mean, incredibly gorgeous! (I bet your mom strokes that leftover fabric at night and cries a little.)

First of all, bobolink's new bag looks absolutely fantastic! I love the vintage buttons... good choices all in all!

Second, I'm going to answer about a potential round 3 on here instead of through PM's! I think that new format would be great! (Saves a bit of postage). It's just a question right now of whether I can handle another swap!

I loved the before purse and I'm ga-ga over the revamped bag! Just gorgeous. How did you attach the new covering?

Thanks for the great response to my PM re: a round 3. I will post a thread on the swap idea board and get a feeling for when you guys would like to start. I've got the FOC secret swap and the altoid recon swap to finish up and then *off we go!*

Hoorah! I finally got my purse (due to some postal mixups) from crafty_dame!

She didn't cover up the lovely pinstripes, (which was a good thing.. ha)... but she did add some nice blue vinyl-ish stars, and green.. um.. tulle? Perhaps. (I'm bad with fabric names). The straps also became all blue vinyled, and there's a nice fabric-y lining with a zipper pocket (instead of the silly plastic-y stuff that was there.. Smiley )

Thanks crafty_dame! (Photos to come, from one of us at least!)

thanks guys  Cheesy

Long version?  hehehe

I made a paper pattern of the purse beforehand (I like to recycle my paper grocery bags that way  Wink), pinned it WS out to the bag and handstitched it. Then I turned it RS out, and put it over the purse, pinned it in place, and sewed the hem.  Then I took the cover off, and glued it  in the corners to the bag itsef and then the top hem to the metal edge of the purse.  I also stitched the bag and cover together in places where it was less difficult to sew.  The sides were where I had to use the most glue.  Then I stitched the beaded-fringe ribbon on, and then satin/twill tape over that.  and then the buttons.  I wanted the cover to be as fitted as possible to the purse.  I think that's everything...  Grin
