The Husband got me a Firefly DVD set for the annual wintertime gifting festival, and i said to myself, jayne cobb's hat is rather cunning!  so i made one.  This one looks a bit more 'polished' than the original, but i just couldn't find really garish colours in wool at the local craft shop, so i had to go acryllic.  it's space age, tho, right?

i made it up as i went, so i figure this is the beta test.  any advice for top-down construction methods?
i also knit a sandworm from Dune.  next up is a facehugger from Alien, or possibly some of the flood from Halo.

until it's fixed, just left click on where the pic should be, click on "properties". highlight the address. paste in toolbar. press enter.

it's very cute. i love earflap hats.

That hat is fan-rutting-tastic! Shocked
Have you checked out the Jayne Cobb Hat thread here on Craftster? It's been going on for over a year now and most people proudly post their Jayne hat pics there!  Grin

I'd love to see the alien face-hugger if you end up making that!

That is so cool, I sent my friend stuff to learn to knit across the country, and she said she had started with a firefly hat! I'm so happy to see yours to have some idea what she was talking about. You Rock!

This site has an easy to follow Jayne Hat pattern. its the one I used and if you find the right wool it's really fast to knit too. I usually knitted them in a day, pompom and all.

Congrats on becoming a member of the Firefly-watching community! To borrow a joke from Arrested Development, there's dozens of us. I love the way you've attached the earflaps - it looks like you knit them down from the body of a top-down hat, instead of picking up stitches at the edge - am I right? It's very interesting, visually.

yeah, it's made from pom pom to icord, with a teensy bit o' the faire isle when attatching the new colours,
i wanted a hat i'd wear, as much as i adore the original jayne hat, i wanted something smoother.

more shiny.

oh, i watched firefly when it first came out on fox, but at that point it
conflicted with the last season of farscape!

that hat itsself is a bit loose, and perhaps not stiff enough.  i think a thicker yarn, or double
stranding on this microspun stuff, since i do love how soft it is.

i recently saw the minihats knitted for the action figures...LOVE!
