Luckily this year I didn't drive myself too insane with holiday knitting (although the shawl I'm still working on has been threatened with defenestration multiple times already). So here are my little knitted gifts that happened:

Knitty's Boogie Time using Knitpicks Sock Landscape in New England Foliage (same yarn that I'm making the Sock Memories Shawl that's driving me batty)

I made Boogie Time as a birthday gift for my friend Rachael, whose favorite sweater is the colors of the yarn I bought for Mom mom's Shawl. I had a hard time finding a good watch (and I still wish it was a little more understated) but I found this at Target on clearance for $6.46, plus only using a small amount of yarn I already had, it makes for a very inexpensive gift. I have small wrists (as does Rachael) and found that I had to make a children's size instead of the women's small (which seemed positively gigantic). The resulting watch is super comfortable and I think pretty cute, although if I were making it for myself I'd go with a solid color and hopefully a black plastic watch (which I sadly couldn't find).

Hello Yarn's free pattern, Irish Hiking Scarf using Knitpick's Andean Silk in Slate

I ended up having to order more yarn halfway through this project, as all the cabling really eats up a ton of yarn without adding that much to length. Now I have a bunch left over as well (in case anyone wants to swap, it's a lovely yarn!). My first real project with cabling (besides swatches to learn how to cable). I think the pattern is really easy to "read" (as in the knitting, not the actual pattern) and memorize, and it's got just enough twists and turns to keep it interesting. I think the result is beautiful yet still totally masculine, and it fits the recipient's style very well, so I think he'll like it (I think I'll see him this weekend to give it to him). These pictures are the scarf in its unblocked state, I'm thinking about blocking it tonight to see if I can add to the length. Here's a more detailed shot:

both your projects look really great! I love the watch especially... the colors of the yarn and the timepiece.

Great job!

Those are both great!

I like your watch band (and the watch itself, too) much better than knitty's. And the hiking scarf looks amazingly cozy, I would definitely offer to swap for the yarn if I didn't already have way too much grey in my stash. Lucky friend, I wish someone would make the Irish Hiking Scarf for me!

I love Boogie Time!!

I whipped one up as soon as the new knitty came out for a friend christmas gift. As soon as I tryed it on I loved it for myself! So nice and warm. I ended up using a free watch that came in my cereal. But don't worry, me and my friend had a thing with these free robots watches, we wanted to get all the colours, so she loved it!

Yeah that Andean Silk is really nice, I've used the black too and that's even nicer.

My husband wanted a hat made out of the slate and the black color (I forget what it is called).. although both are beautiful seperately, I've always hated the black/grey color scheme. Yeck!

Haha funny you should mention that, I used the slate/pitch color scheme in that yarn for this scarf:

Just to give you an idea of what the two colors of that yarn look like together (it looks a little blotchy because it's wet in the picture)

I used the Irish Hiking Scarf pattern to make a washcloth last year.  I wanted a hand-knit washcloth, and I wanted something simple to teach myself cables, and Voila!  I used cotton yarn and just stopped after a few pattern repeats to make it a square.  I love it and use it every day, and it's a little snazzier than a regular ol' washcloth!
