Wendy, you used t-shirts?  How did you stabilize the knit?

Fort Loop
I  use a light to medium weight iron on interfacing that stabilized the knit.  The the lining I used is cotton.  The handles were a bit stretch as there was no  interfacing in them but then you can use either ribbon or I folded more of the cotton fabric and sewed it to the handle.  So the bag does not stretch at all its very stable and keeps it shape.

I made a another of these Japanese pouchs  from the book Omiyage by Kumiko Sudo.  Again it was for a swap so I couldn't post photos until now,

see page 44  for another version of the same pouch  in different colours.

I have just finished my bag for May.  I spotted this varigated ribbon-like yarn that I just fell in love with.  So I  just had to buy a couple of balls but I had no idea what I would use it for.      Any way I was looking through my craft stash for something  and I saw this yarn again.  Well I got this idea for a crocheted bag.

I also put a zipper in it.

qazicat, l love both your bags.  Ever since I saw your previous Omiyage pouch, I've been wanting to preview the book before buying it but my library doesn't have it.  Your ribbon crochet bag is gorgeous.  I really like how the handle is part of the bag - no extra hardware to buy.
