i knit in class, but it might be a little different as i'm in college and all of my classes are discussion based. my professors don't mind, especially when i tell them i'm really ADHD and knitting helps me focus since i'm doing something with my hands. one student even said she likes it when people knit in class because it relaxes her. i would never do it during an exam, though. that's just rude.

i had a friend knit in class at another college as a form of protest because the class was so utterly boring.

I've started knitting in school again (with sharpened chopsticks, they fit in my pencil case and do not click) and in some of my classes the teachers don't seem to notice my knitting and my maths teacher was told by some girls in my class who told on me mainly because they were annoyed that they werent allowed to cut paper and I was knitting, and funnily enough my concentration dropped after that and I stopped paying attention. Also, my mandaring teacher has already banned knitting rom her class. But so far, my art, english and science teachers haven't noticed.

But knitting helps me to concentrate so much! It's very good, in the classes I can do it in...

Lots of people bring their needles to class, but I think I'm one of the few who knits during class time.  Only during big discussions and in only 2 classes in which I can afford to use my time that way.  It trains you to multitask, plus you get a LOT of extra knitting in.  PLUS, it's very relaxing.

I wouldn't recommend knitting with knitting needles if you plan to knit in class at a high school. Now, that sentence might seem kinda weird, because the whole idea of knitting is kinda based on knitting needles, but I actually learned to knit with dried out/empty ink pens, so my teachers never really said anything about it and I got along fine. I do notice now that I have real knitting needles that the stuff I knit doesn't look like a fish net like with the pens, but if you really have to knit in class that badly it's not that bad of an idea.
