PLEASE READ ALL DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY!  YOU MUST BE PRE-APPROVED BEFORE PARTICIPATING
Swap name: Birthday Month Swap
Craftster member who is organizing this swap: orangeabsinthe (organizers change every month)
Sign-up date range: 12/31/05-1/31/06
Date to send item by: 2 weeks after you claim someone
Limited to a certain number of people? (optional): no!
Non-U.S. participants allowed? yes!
All ages allowed? Or 18+? all ages!
Organizer meets the 4 conditions for swapping and will make sure that every participant meets these conditions: YES

Details of swap:  This swap was organized so everyone can get something crafty for their birthday!  Please read the guidelines carefully.
  • If your birthday is in January, please think of a list of things that you would want to receive.  The more you think of, the better.  The last wish you will post is "a surprise."  Then you will post a bio about yourself, including where you are from and what your birthday is.  As soon as you've decided, PM me with your information.
  • Once I PM you and let you know you have been approved, you may post you list and bio on this thread.  Please post lists only.  No discussion on this thread please
  • Everyone will then go through the lists and choose a craftster they want to send a birthday gift to.  Your birthday does not have to be in January for you to craft for someone.  If you want to choose someone, just PM me with your info (including your address, please), who you want to craft for, and what item, and I will send you their address.
  • If you chose to craft for someone, you have 2 weeks to get the item out the door.  If two weeks pass, and I don't hear anything from youyou guessed it, negative feedback!
  • Each person can be chosen unlimited times!  HERE'S THE CATCH- if you get chosen, you must send the person who crafted for you a thank you note in the mail.  You will get negative feedback if you do not send a thank you note (it can be a postcard even).  I think this is a fair trade for all the crafty goodness you'll be getting!
  • It is super important for everyone to keep good communication.  When you send, let me know, and of course, don't forget the DC#.  When you receive, let me know and publically announce in the gallery (even if you don't have pictures).  Also, let me know when you send off your thank you note (no DC# required, your on your honor!).
  • You can choose to craft for as many people as you like, but you cannot "owe" more than 3 things.  If you are a newbie and this is your first swap, you must successfully send once before choosing again.
Original idea thread and discussion located here- http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=68058.0

Happy Birthday January Babies!

My birthday is the 9th-O-January!  I will soon be 27 years old...which I think is swell...i like that 27 is a prime number (i am a nerd, i know).  I live in Portland, Oregon.  I am a modern day hippie girl. i love vintage and retro-y things.  My favorite colours are earthy tones...I love greens, browns, reds, oranges and yellows.  i like anything nature-y themed.  I love to knit and love learning to sew.  I am a coffee addict, i have three chickens, i love my scooter, and I am in nursing school!  I love to laugh...and i have the sense of humor to prove it!   Grin

heres my birthday wishlist!

1.  A BIRTHDAY SUPRISE!

2.  4 smallish bumper stickers for mine and three of my friends scooters...we have officially named our four member scooter gang the "Motor 'Cooters!"---our theme colors are red black and white!

3.  an ipod cozy!

4.  some sort of sewn or reconned shirt or hoodie!  just not too low cut...(if you do the hoodie, it would be really kewl if it was medical or nurse themed somehow)

5.  vintage/retro or vintage/retro inspired fabric or findings to craft with!

6.  a journal to keep track of my swap info in!

7.  yarn...can be any type of yarn...but i really despise fun fur!   Lips sealed

8.  a fun pin cushion that doesnt want to fall over whenever you stick pins into it!  (there is a really cute cactus pin cushion somewhere around here!)

9.  a snood like this....http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=35858.0  or http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=53136.0

10. i just saw this cute cardigan in the geek swap board...i want one!  something equally dorky embroidered on a secondhand cardi would be perfect! heres the link...scroll down! http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=65877.30

11. sweater boots like these....http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=67859.0
or these....http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=70888.0  I wear a size 7.5 in womens shoes!

12.  anything you specialize in making!  show off your skillz!

I will add more to my list as i think of stuff...or if it sucks! Grin
thanks so much!
angie

I love Martha Stewart (even more so now that she's been to jail!), love to cook and love to eat. Not super girly, but I am domestic, and I LOVED that civil war costume dress that was posted recently. Been a hippy, been a punk rocker, never been into country. Love crocheting anything, like to learn more than knitting a square, love to try working with resins. I taught skiing and snowboarding for MANY years (took the last three seasons off with babies). Love the snow, love the beach, live just east of Seattle Washington. Listen to Punk rock and Christian music! Been around the block, but like to stay close to home now-a-days! Not too into raunchy stuff, not afraid to be unique. Don't look too good in muted tones or pastel, I'm more of a jewel tone/winter. I play the hand drums, own 5 different types. Love crafty people and crafts, and craft fairs, and crafting, and did I mention I love to craft!?!?!
Thanks in advance everyone!!!
Javastain-Jen

Heya! My birthday will be on January 10th. I am a happy-go-lucky Capricorn! This is a cool idea for a swap!

I'd love:

1) A ring or necklace or bracelet in this style - I love the tiny flower beads!
http://www.moodswingstudio.com/index.php?item=11&ret=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.moodswingstudio.com%2Findex.php%3Fpage%3D1%26category%3D10

2) Some metallic embroidery floss.

3) A cozy for my iPod (classic-size, i.e. the "big one")
thank you!

4) A very feminine cat collar in pink! For my beautiful Vanessa - a girly-girl kitty if ever there was one!
http://static.flickr.com/35/73366457_a0782180a4_o.jpg

5) This might be a tall order, but a felted owl like this! I love this!
http://www.etsy.com/view_item_sold_anon.php?listing_id=43594&transaction_id=10082

6) A bar of exotic-smelling soap. If you make it yourself, that's even better.

7) The stash of buttons you no longer want or need.

Cool Anything with a 40s-50s pinup girl on it.

9) A tank-top shirt with the band Queen (http://www.queenonline.com) on it; or one with just the plain Nine Inch Nails (NIN) logo (http://www.nin.com) on it. yay! thank you!!

10) Or how about a big-fat surprise???

I'm a girly-girl in my late 30s, live in Florida, and hate it here except for the beach and the weather. (And the vegetation. I love hibiscus plants!) I'm an embroidery freak - I whipped out no fewer than 5 embroidered items during the Christmas break. I also make pillows - usually out of old clothes I can no longer wear! I'm a thrifting addict and am planning to write a book on the subject (someone called me an expert!). My "real" job is in professional sports full-time but my heart lies in writing, vintage fashion, photography, music and pop culture. A bit of a blog nut - I have about 4 or 5 different blogs. I wish for 2006 is that someone would teach me how to knit and crochet.  I wear dark colors, love film noir, want to visit England again and am nuts about Cuban/Spanish food.

That's all! Thanks for this! - lucy van pelt. Cheesy

Today is my birthday, I got approved today.  Here is my list, or all I can think of with this terrible cold (not thinking so good today) anyway....

1.  I really really would like one of these baby slings to carry my grandchildren in  I like the one found on this thread  http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=50415.0

2. I would like to have some kind of decorated box with organizer deviders to keep my greeting cards in.  They are so disorganized.  Somebody picked me for this for another swap

3.  Some large dangling earings, just about anything I will love

4.  A knitted panta for my daughter.  I tried to crochet one because I don't knit but it didn't come out the same.  Black or Purple would be best.

5.  Anything with a musical movie theme

6.  Ok, I am stealing this idea from other swappers, but a cool journal to keep track of swaps in

7.  Anything with goats.

8.  some sushi jewelry, maybe like this, http://www.creativeadornments.com/sushi.html well there is another link with some that I really like but I cannot remember where it is and it is saved on the other computer so when I get it back I will post.  Here it is  http://www.pixelgirlshop.com/gallery.php?id=353

9.  One of those chicken or viking hats for my 7 month old grandson  http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=21342.0  or http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=65745.0

but in the mean time, and finally, 10.  A SURPRISE OF COURSE.  I love surprises.

I recently thought of something else, during a very restless night, that I would love to have.  An eye pillow.  One with relaxing herbs like flax seed and lavender (you know what I mean).  a Red satin fabric or something.  Something soft and soothing and comfortable.

Modified because earlier I forgot to say anything about myself.  I am a 43, as of yesterday, mother of 5.  4 at home, 2 teens and 1 preteen, one grandson and one on the way.  I love goats and collect them, yes even live ones, I also like hummingbirds, favorite flower is iris, favorite color is black, but like lots of color as well.  We have lots of pets, from of course goats, to dogs to reptiles and new addition hamster, etc.  I love musicals of all kinds, I am a Christian, run a discipleship center (sort of rehab but different), and mostly my life is my kids and my new found addiction "craftster".

Hey Craftsters,

I'll be celebrating my 26th birthday on Jan 18.  I'm past the midpoint between 20 and 30  Shocked  Somehow I never thought I'd get to be this old...not that I thought I would die or anything, I just remember being young and naive and don't remember all those years passing.  I'm in my 4th year of Nursing school and will graduate this spring with a bachelor of science in nursing.  I own a Honda Jazz/Metropolitan scooter.  I have two cats and am thinking of getting a hedgehog.  I am moving Feb 1, but don't worry about shipping...if your wonderful birthday gift hasn't arrived by the time I've moved, the post office will forward it for me  Grin  I love doing crafts and wish I had more time in which to do them.  I live in Victoria, BC, Canada.  My birthday wishlist is as follows:

-scooter-related jewelry
-a nurse-themed messenger bag with some pockes on the interior
-pin-up girl or tattoo fabric (hopefully enough for me to make a corset top from)
-a nice quality deck of cards decoupaged with cute images (scooters, pinups, medical, etc) like these http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=47002.0
-small magnetic storage containers like these http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=18288.0 although possibly slightly bigger as I would be looking to store things like bobbins and pins in them
-a neck tie corset belt as seen here http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=17453.0
-a small wristlet style purse with a flower applique as per this expensive inspiration bag http://www.coach.com/aspx/content/product.aspx?product_no=7987&category_id=240&easyask_id=
-shoulder-duster earrings
-a cozy for my ipod shuffle (someone posted a bubble gum wrapper one a while ago)
-pretty fabric covered 1" buttons
-surprise me  Kiss

PS - I was approved yesterday, but just got around to getting on here and posting my list

Thanks

I'll be 21 on the 20th and I'm so excited.  I live in the north west of England and work as an assistant manager in a video shop.  I like listening to metal & rock music.  Some of my favourite bands are Breed 77, Killswitch Engage, Sevendust, Dry Kill Logic, Trivium, Avenged Sevenfold plus many, many more.  I'm obsessed with cows, especially if they are purple and fluffy.  I try to watch films when I can but I rarely have the time to.  Some of my favourites are Spirited Away, Ichi the Killer, Zatoichi, Phone, The Returner, The Tube.
Other things I like are stars, polka dots, thick stripes.
My favourite colours are black, red, pink, purple and bright blue.  I especially like black combined with red and bright pink.
I'm starting to fall in love with animal prints - cow, tiger, leopard, zebra etc.

And now for the list:
(as a reminder I am from the UK)

1 - A top that could ether wear during the day or for a night out.
I like the last picture here: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=69121.0
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=63818.0

2 - A casual skirt or pair of trousers.  Something that I would be comfortable wearing around the house and for a day out shopping.  The skirt would ideally need to be below the knee - the longer the better.  If you choose trousers, I like the styles that are loose at the bottom but not too wide.  I have lots of flare-ish pants already.  I would them to be a plain material in a dark colour (except brown, grey or green) with a little bit of embellishment.
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=36241.0

3 - A bag.  Either:  a) a fairly large bag for work in a funky design and material.
OR       b) a simple and smallish bag (big enough for the essentials) which I could use for a night out.  I would prefer it in black perhaps with some sparkly, lacey or other girly embellishments.  I'd like the sort with a short strap so that it sits under my arm at about elbow height.

4 - Either:  a) A snuggly woolly jumper in black (casual but a bit smart looking so I can wear it to work)  I can't find a good picture, but I'd love an off the shoulder jumper
OR        b) A stencilled/embroidered hooded jumper.  Something unique/funky or with the name of one of my favourite bands on it (see above) and maybe some artwork from one of the album covers.

5 - Some leg warmers/socks - not too bulky so that I can wear them under my work trousers during the walk to and from work.  These could be any colour as long as its bright  =)

6 - Some of those fingerless gloves with the mitten part that flips over the ends.  http://magknits.com/Sept05/patterns/urban.htm
Or just a pair of cosy mittens (any colour, apart from green, as long as they are bright)

7 - Some scented candles or soap.  I love sweet fruity and floral scents.
I love the rainbow soap in the second post here: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=52055.msg517392#msg517392

8 - A guide on how to make beads with polymer clay.  I already have lots of the clay but would like some inspiration/instructions to teach me how to make beads.  A couple of samples/pictures included would be brilliant.

9 - Something cow related - really anything at all  =)

10 - Jewellery making supplies:  Glass beads(except seed beads), metal/funky plastic charms, metal beads and spacers, chain - anything along these lines which you have spare.

11 - An earring holder.  I have too many pairs so I need somewhere to store them.  Something that I can hang on the wall or stand on my desk.
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=45442.msg544946#msg544946

12 - I'll just add this last one  =)  I'll be going out for my birthday so I'd love something new to wear.  I would love you forever if you could send me something gorgeous to wear in time for my birthday  Grin  Here are some ideas of what I like:
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=10987.0
The last skirt here: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=10447.0

http://www.angeltowns2.net//violetfire/Clothing/Skirts/greenskirt.jpg
http://www.angeltowns2.net//violetfire/Clothing/Skirts/spotted.jpg

13 - A suprise - whatever you enjoy making

Thank you in advance to anyone who might choose to send something to me  =)

I'm turning 18 on January 27! Yay! I like to sew, play guitar, and watch horror movies with my boyfriend. My favorite movie is May. I listen to The Bled, Light This City, Circle Takes the Square, Zao, Haste the Day, and a lot of other bands. I love stars, skulls, and army men.And tattoos and piercings.I DO NOT like pin up stuff. My favorite colors are red and black.

1.) Screen Print on canvas (wall art)

2.) A knitted hat, a beanie with a little visor would be sooo awesome. Or maybe a beanie with the little ear flaps.

3.) A long wallet.  The kind thats like a long rectangle that holds credit cards and cash.

4.) A Purse. Whatever it is, I want it to have some kind of a closure and pocket(s) on the inside.I like the slouch bags with a flap. Or  something like this: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=49030.0 ora Mini bowling bag (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=64535.0

5.) A cool Handmade journal/ book

6.) A shirt! maybe with a band on it, or whatever you want. I'm size small, or youth medium.

7.) Sewing Supplies- cool fabric,cool pin cushion,thread,whatever

8.) A Pillow! With cluster puff stuffing!

9.) Something having to do with guitar

10.) A Surprise!

Yay!  I got accepted!  Grin

HERE GOES....

About Me:  My birthday is January 14, and I will be turning 27 (3 years to the big one, oh noes!).  I'm a pretty simple creature.  I love to read fiction, listen to music of all kinds (rock, pop, country, alternative, jazz, lounge, blues, top 40, etc.), love to craft and write (short stories), and I love to annoy my younger siblings- espically the 11 year old.  My favorite crafts are beading jewelry, counted cross-stitch, and making picture frames.   I also love doing assorted silly little crafts.  I have a sewing machine, and once I get my desk cleared in my bedroom (as well as the rest of the room) I plan on learning how to use it!    I don't dress in any one particular style, I am a big girl and just usually get what I can-- though I LOVE stuff I see at Hot Topic, the more sarcastic the better.  I am a self-proclaimed geek, having watched one form or another of Star Trek since grade school and playing tabletop RPGs in my early days of college.  I'm not very particular about colors, but I am clumsy so white is usually out of the question and yellow looks real bad on me.  I LOVE animals and used to show my Sheltie when I was in High School- I still am in love with the breed.  Other animals I can't get enough of: horses, goldfish, penguins, and giraffes.

Uhm, I think I rattled on long enough.  =P

My wishlist:

1.  Indie music CD mix.  I'm interested in Indie music but have not encountered much and do not know where to begin.  All I have is the Garden State soundtrack (which I adore) but I have a feeling its not real "Indie."

2.  Laptop cozy.  It's winter in St. Louis and Lappy need to be kept warm too!

3.  Beads of any kind!

4.  Felted pins.  My work smock needs dressing up!

5.  Dark chocolate Pocky.  I cannot find it in StL, and I know it exists!

6.  Metallic silver and metallic purple Prismacolor color pencils.  I can't find them!

7.  Fun picture frames.

8.  "Geek" themed tee (stenciled or embroidered- 3XL).

9.  Cute "monster" plushie.

10.  "Monster" purse.

11.  Anything for the kitchen that involves cherries and light blue.

12. SURPRISE ME.   I like surprises!

Ooo, my firstest ever swap!  How exciting!  Cheesy

OK, so a little about me:

I'm fairly new to Craftster, joined late last year and do a lot of lurking because there's just too many excellent projects that keep appearing to comment on them all unfortunately.  But everyone here is so talented!

My birthday is January 27 as well (Happy Birthday to iheartalex!), I'll be 23.  My hobbies are spinning, knitting, embroidery and sewing mostly, but I'd love to get into some papercrafts as well.  I'm getting married on October 14th this year to my darling fiance.  Very excited about that!

Oh yeah, whoever picks me will get an international swap as I live in Melbourne, Australia.

Ummm, I like cats, reading, gardening, listening to all kinds of music.  Love Monty Python, The Goodies, Dave Allen etc - British comedy rocks!

I'm going back to university this year, studying Animal Science.

And my wishlist looks something like this:
1 - Scrapooking starter ideas/information.  Even if you just write me a letter telling me how you got started, that would be great!
2 - The rubber that you carve to make stamps and/or some of those funky coloured stamp pads (it's really hard to get good supplies around here, can you tell?)
3 - Embellishments for scrapbooking.  They're so cool.
4 - any old magazines you don't want/need (I think THAT one could be wishful thinking!  Everyone reuses them, right?! Cheesy)
5 - Vintage (1940s or 50s) dress patterns or copies.  I'm getting mum to make my wedding dress in this style and need some inspiration.
6 - Craft books.  My library is sadly lacking!  Topics that would interest me include anything to do with textile crafts, mosaic making, the "lost" art of old fashioned homesteading (ie, making soap, candles etc)
7 - Beads, sequins, buttons etc.  They never go astray!  Oh, especially beads that would be good for making wine glass charms.  I'm thinking of doing this for the wedding.  Our colours are dove grey and royal blue with gold highlights.
8 - Surprise me!   Cool

Thanks everyone!

Mihn.

Man, do I feel like a dork - I accidentally posted my wishlist on the unconditional swap for January, which was something completely different. I hope there might still be time for someone to make me something!

Name of swap- BIRTHDAY MONTH SWAP, January
Craftster username: Chibiwakki
Email address: chibiwakki@yahoo.ca
My wishlist:
1. a long scarf, maybe with a patchwork-y sort of design
2. a lacy, cobwebby shawl
3. a roomy, over the shoulder sack sort of bag for groceries or knitting supplies, you know, it's rounded and the strap and the body are all one piece . . . I have no clue if this style has a name, and I can't find a picture >_<
4. handmade books, with or without words or pictures in them
5. some sort of case for my circulars
6. yarn
6. small tins or boxes, or stuff made with them. Yay containers!
7. unusual plushies - monsters, robots, aquatic creatures
8. anything gothy or loligothy
9. delicate silver jewelery
10. anything well made, so make something you're good at!
11. surprise me!

I turned 25 on Jan 8th, and being graduated with a degree in visual arts, am having trouble finding a career. I'm a cat person, but my parents aren't so my current pets are a goldfish and a snail. I love books, I have two crammed bookcases with enough books on the floor to fill a third (maybe I shouldn't have asked for more books?) I like gothic stuff, but my style is so mixed with other random things that I can only describe it as eclectic. Maybe if I listed some of the nouns I find cool? Neil Gaiman, Voltaire (the guy with the music and the comics, not the dead guy), Jhonen Vasquez, Roman Dirge, Sam & Max, Calvin & Hobbes, Cowboy Bebop, Rasputina, Lewis Carroll, Edward Gorey, Tim Burton, Red Dwarf, Wallace & Gromit, Amelie, The City of Lost Children, Brian Froud, Hayao Miyazaki, Samurai Jack, the Triplets of Belleville, SCUD: the Disposable Assassin, The Darkangel Trilogy, Dame Darcy, Azumanga Daioh, CLAMP, Charles De Lint, James C. Christensen, Reboot, Eerie Indiana, Zelda, the Monkey Island games, Royal Crown Revue, Dead Can Dance, Cruxshadows, Faith and the Muse, Arrogant Worms, squids, octopi, cuttlefish, jellyfish, anemones, crustaceans, llamas, pangolins, deer, jackalopes, chimeras, gryphons, spiders, beetles, cake, mushrooms, tea, bottles, jars, black, purple, red, silver, green.
Woo, I hope that wasn't too much information, but I hope it helped!

I didn't receive anything from this swap for my birthday, not that I'm complaining since it was a great birthday anyways
